Boys names?

Im currently pregnant with DC2...very early days as am only 5 weeks or so but starting to think about names already!

We have a 5 year old DS called William George and have a gut feeling that this will be a boy as well so am trying to think of names to go with DS's.

I like sort of traditional names but not too old man like if that makes any sense...and I'd really like a name I can shorten because DS is Will most of the time but William if he has been naughty lol!

Thoughts so far have been:-

Thomas(I really like Tom but not Thomas so much)
Jacob
Joshua
Alexander
Charlie (but I don't want a Charles so he'd have to be Charlie)
Joseph(but bubs is due Jan and DS was a month early so good chance this will be as well so it'll end up being a christmas baby and not sure if Joseph is just too much!)

Can't have Ben or Sam as friends have got boys called that...any other suggestions?

Ideally middle name would be Edward and our surname begsins with H so although I love Harry and Henry together with our surname sounds a bit fisherman ish lol!

Girls name is very easy...Emily Grace but I just know it'll be a boy!

I like Joshua best tbh.
Not sure how popular it is if that´s an issue for you.

Peter? I think this is fab and wish I hadn't used it for DS1's middle name as I'm now expecting number 3.

John(ny)
Nicholas
James
Leo
Lawrence
David

Emily Grace is lovely (if very popular).

I like Alexander from your list.

How about
Edward (Ed)
Quentin (Quin)
Tobias (Toby)

ihearttc · 13/05/2010 17:07

Oh I like Leo...hadn't thought of that one. Nothing else is particularly shouting at me but Ive got at least 7 months to go so plenty of time to think!

I really like Joshua as well and it doesn't really bother me being popular tbh-William is pretty popular name and he is the only 1 in his year at school so I think it just depends on what people name their children in any one year on how many there are of that name.

Emily has always been my girls name...but I don't think for one minute it will be a girl lol!

Oh, and Matthew. (love that name)

CheerfulYank · 13/05/2010 17:18

I second Peter, great name IMO.

mathanxiety · 13/05/2010 17:42

I think Joseph would be great, any time of the year.

Also like Leo, Peter and Nicholas. Plus Dominic.

nelly83 · 13/05/2010 19:14

I know a Leo Alexander and he is a fab little boy! I also like Oliver, Reuben, and Finley.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 13/05/2010 23:58

I like Joshua, Alexander and Charlie

also;

Matthew
Patrick

flopsy1974 · 14/05/2010 09:43

I have a son called William and his brother is Patrick. I like Alexander and Jacob from your list.
Other good names are Dominic and Daniel.

birdofthenorth · 14/05/2010 09:51

Love Jacob and Joshua from your list.

On the traditional theme I also like Henry, Oliver, Alexander and Toby.

ihearttc · 14/05/2010 18:07

Hmm hadn't thought of Oliver so will definitely add that onto the list.

I love love love Henry but it really does sound very wrong with our surname unfortunately...could maybe convince DH to change it lol?!!

DH is Daniel so can't really have that but Toby is quite nice as well so will add that to the list.

Why are boys names so hard lol!?

Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone-much appreciated!

Enough of the Peters! I can't have my son's name becoming popular!
