The totally adorable staffie dog we had for 14 years ... sorry! He was a Max before I'd heard it used for children and it just sticks in my head as his name.

lilmissmummy · 09/05/2010 19:59

My friend has a lovely little boy called Maximillian so he comes to mind!

or Maximus as in a gladiator!

Great name!

Ivykaty44 · 09/05/2010 20:00

I prefer Dax, good strong masculine name

MadameCastafiore · 09/05/2010 20:05

We have a Maximilian - think it is a cool strong name. (he is only ever called Max though!)

Maclaren · 09/05/2010 21:00

We have a Max so love the name

lucy567 · 09/05/2010 21:14

Sorry but I don't like it, sounds like a dogs
name.

nannynobnobs · 09/05/2010 21:21

My dog is called Max but it is a good name. Dax is a hair product.

snowwombat · 09/05/2010 22:44

love it

tjtheminx · 10/05/2010 04:45

Definite no to Dax.
My DH is set on Max but I'm just not sure.
Double Barrelled surname so need something short.

Tres safe choice for middle-class mummy. That may be a Good Thing or a Bad Thing; only you can know.

tjtheminx · 10/05/2010 16:19

AW this is what I'm afraid of...
My DH is a terribly middle class daddy!

Prefer Tadhg or Rory myself but DH just recoils in horror.Sigh...

You could have Maxim, like Maxim De Winter in Rebecca

I like it

oceryo · 10/05/2010 16:23

Does your DH like any other names?

jellybeans · 10/05/2010 16:29

love it

CuppaTeaJanice · 10/05/2010 19:20

Maxim is such a cool name. Probably biassed cos it was the name of the sexy french exchange boy with floppy hair .

Maximillion is terribly middle class, and far too long for a small child. He'd have to wear corduroy slacks and have a very sensible haircut.

Max is a bit 'cleaning products'.......'max power cleaning - kills all the germs in your toilet dead'. I like it though.

tjtheminx · 11/05/2010 00:08

oceryo DH prides himself on being decisive. Won't listen to any other suggestion.
Maxim I like. CTJ
Maxi-Pads did cross my mind as a potential nn tho.

I like it - but DP's friend has a son called Max which is short for Maxwell. Makes me think of coffee. They call him Maxwell when he's being naughty.

I prefer Maximus. Must admit that I'm a bit of a fundamentalist when it comes to names. I don't think you should put shortened versions on the birth cert even if you like the shortened version better. It just really limits their options in later life.

thecatatemygymsuit · 11/05/2010 00:27

I love it. My fantasy boy's name - works on any level I think.

saslou · 11/05/2010 11:29

I love it too.

swanandduck · 11/05/2010 12:52

I think it's a lovely name and works well on a small child and a grown man. I always imagine a Max to be very good looking.

tjtheminx · 12/05/2010 02:24

swananduck I imagine he'll be really good looking too
KC I did the same with DS1 he's called the shortened name but if ever wants to be called his full name then he can.
My personal favourite of the long version is also Maximus... but then I think it's a bit phallic

Love it, cute for little boy, cool for teen, steong for adult. Can't use it myself, surname doesn't go

notso · 12/05/2010 10:11

Maxwell with Max as a nn, I love it but it's already in my family so off limits boo.

treyiw3 · 12/05/2010 11:57

Why not go the whole hog and have Maximillian as full name (Max for short)? The mid-length versions sound as if you don't quite dare use Maximillian.

stleger · 12/05/2010 12:14

Our dog is Max, he was named by previous owners. He is very handsome! I know a Maxim, who is 17 and very cool.
