3 weeks left - anything wrong with these?!

I have 3 weeks to go now (maybe less!) so would appreciate if you can find anything wrong with our current favourites?!

Alice Hermione Kate Davis
Alexander William Robert Davis

I really like them at the mo but wonder if they are a bit safe? Because I have an unusual Shakespearean name people are expecting me to come up with something similar and the pressure is quite stressful!

Also do people think the Alice in Wonderland film is going to launch it into popularity this year? I know lots of people on here say who cares if it's popular but I don't want my kids to be one of 6 in the class with the same name...

Thanks!

Hermione is trying a bit hard and too HP. Alice is lovely. I love Alexander too and William and Robert are safe

oceryo · 07/05/2010 16:41

Lovely choices I don't think they are "safe" names, they are classics.

The only small thing would be that I'd change Kate for Katherine.

grumpyasallpoliticiansarepants · 07/05/2010 16:42

will there be lots of alices what with the film and all that?

LadyCressida · 07/05/2010 16:48

ps- Hermione is my middle name so I don't think people will think we picked it for HP reasons.

Both Alice and Alexander are lovely names, i wouldn't worry about the middle names being "a bit safe" - people don't pay that much attention to middle names after the inital announcements, so who cares what they think. Go with what you like.

mathanxiety · 07/05/2010 18:49

I wouldn't worry about the film.

Both gorgeous names. I think I'd change Kate to Katherine too.

Hmmm maybe it is a bit 'iss'y!

The other name I wanted to use was Delphine because it was my grandma's but that doesn't go with Davis either!

I LOVE Delphine - fab name and very unusual - go for it PLEASE.

I like Hermione too though

nooka · 07/05/2010 23:35

I think Delphine Davis actually works quite well.

Delphine Alice Hermione Davis.
Delphine Katherine Hermione Davis.

I had a friend called Delphine. I can't think of any nns though.

Rhigwyn · 08/05/2010 10:41

I'm very sorry to add it in but would feel awful if I didn't but there is a Delphine Donkey in Peppa pig. But there is also a Rebbeca Rabbit, Suzy sheep and Emily elephant and they are all very safe classic names. Can't u just tell I have a Peppa obsessed 4 yr old!!! For what it's worth though I think Delphine is lovely xx

Oooooh lovely names!

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 08/05/2010 11:44

Not so keen on Delphine, personally. I adore your two main choices though. Alexander and Alice would be high/top on my list but our surname begins with A and I don't think it works.

rachel234 · 08/05/2010 11:46

I think both Alice Davis and Alex Davis ryhyme too much and sound a little 'ssy', if that makes sense.

I love Hermione and Delphine, though.

BridesheadRegardless · 08/05/2010 11:52

Alice and Alexander both really lovely.

Classic and not overly popular. I don't think the wonderland film will make a great deal of difference.

I'm not going to bother commenting on the middle names as they don't really matter.

ShowOfHands · 08/05/2010 11:58

Alice and Alexander are both fine names. Popular in terms of being nice, classic names. They wouldn't be the only ones but wouldn't be like the ubiquitous Harry and Ella.

Delphine is so pretty.

LadyCressida · 08/05/2010 14:27

Thanks for all your opinions guys, it is so good to test them on people before we pick anything officially!

The other problem is that once we use either Alice or Alex then they are too similar to each other to both use so the other one is then gone for next time !

I like all your choices. Go for it.

oceryo · 09/05/2010 19:16

I like the Alexandra idea too

LadyCressida · 21/05/2010 18:45

So I always read these threads and wonder what people actually pick...

Well I had a gorgeous girl and she's called Alice Hermione Delphine. Don't know if it all goes but it suits her and i'm very happy

Thanks mumsnetters for all your advice and 6 months of good fun on the name threads!! Next time I have a baby i'll probably log in immediately
