dh just suggested Ginny as a nn. He likes Virginia - which is pretty, but the 'virgin' bit worries me.
Any ideas what Ginny could be a nn for?

Ginny Weasley (Harry Potter character) is short for Ginevra, which is rather nice.

Dd has a friend Ginny, who is really Virginia, but rarely called it.

McDreamy · 05/05/2010 21:02

Genevieve?

wukter · 05/05/2010 21:02

Or Guinevive.
It's lovely but the HP connection would turn me off, I think.

Exogenesis · 05/05/2010 21:04

I like Ginny in its own right tbh.
One of my best friends is a Ginevra and she is looovvveeeelllyyyyy!

weegiemum · 05/05/2010 21:05

Guinevere? (prob wrong spelling, but as in King Arthur)

nbee84 · 05/05/2010 21:06

Imogen can have the nn Ginny

oceryo · 05/05/2010 21:06

Would you consider Jenny, with Jennifer as full name?

angelfire · 05/05/2010 21:53

My MIL was Jinny. Lovely name. Lovely person.

I like Ginny and Virginia, but yes, I have to admit that I think being a Virginia between the ages of 12 and 16 could be quite embarrassing and problematic.

What about Imogen with Ginny for short?

Upgrade · 06/05/2010 21:50

oh it's you TummyTickler. NO I take back Imogen. Not your cup of tea at all I bet.

gingerkirsty · 06/05/2010 21:50

Another vote for Imogen, I love that name and never realised Ginny could be the short version, otherwise I might have used it for DD!

swanandduck · 07/05/2010 11:09

Gillian?

cloelia · 07/05/2010 19:34

We have a Virginia who is always called Ginny; she is nearly 12 but has never been teased for the full name as I don't think her friends even realise she is anything other than Ginny. We really liked the full name and our DD1's name has never been shortened so I was suprised initially when everyone shortened it, but now like both versions equally. It is a lovely name, go for it!

Rockbird · 07/05/2010 19:38

Bearing in mind your previous choices, Ginny is an amazing name, I love it! Ginny short for Imogen or Guinevere or Ginevra or Virginia is fab, whichever one you'd go for

I Even quite like Virginia but I don't think I would if I was 15.

Love Guinevere/vive

MoppingMummy · 07/05/2010 21:35

Imogen or Genevieve lovely. Not keen on Virginia.

PosyPetrovaPauline · 07/05/2010 22:21

Ginny gorgeously sweet

CoteDAzur · 07/05/2010 23:11

How about nn Jeannie which sounds almost exactly like Ginny.

It could be nn for Jean or Jeanette.
