A great name or boring?
Would love to hear your ideas.
Is it popular?

I don't think it's as popular as it was in the 70s and 80s - but may be time for a revival.

This was on DH's short-list if DC2 was going to be a boy, with the nn Drew. However my ex is called Andrew, so I wasn't really keen. Other than that, it's fine - not amazing, not awful.

I would have thought that parents calling their baby Andrew today would perhaps be Scottish. I don't think it's as common as it used to be (There were quite a few Andrews at school with me in the 80s - so babies of the late 70's).
I guess it's a less common name and similar to David, John, Mark etc in popularity.

If you like the name, then what's to question? I still think the baby becomes the name and once named, you dont/can't imagine them being called anything other than that name.

Solid but a bit dull.

Drew is a better nn than Andy.

What about an alternative version....Andre, Anders etc.?

Magaly · 05/05/2010 13:29

I like some dated names but Andrew is a bit dull. Jmo.

There are too many of them too close to my age. If you suggested a dated name that I only knew of one or two of them then that would seem less bland. I imagine I would be quite typical finding Andrew dull for a baby. A good name for a man of about 40 though.

Yes! Fabulous name!

I know them aged 70+ to 3 months. Timeless and fantastic!

I know too many Andys aged 35/45 years that I find it hard to imagine for a baby... but at least he won't have to share his name with many others .

I used to love the name but apparently some research showed that guys called Andrew were less likely to have a girlfriend than other guys. Have no idea why this research was undertaken or what other factors were brought to bear, but it just put me off the name.

I love it. Can't use it myself as its DH's name, otherwise i definitely would.
