Sam but not Samuel

Could Sam be short for any other boys' names other than Samuel?

Samwell I LOVE! It's from a fantasy series I read.

I can't think of any others I'm afraid. I like both Samuel and Samson though.

Samwise like in Lord of the Rings

It does but that's quite good and 'strong' for a name (bit like Max, Zac, Ben, Jack, Jake). Alfie, Archie etc seem abit 'soft' and long names are pointless unless . Maybe a longer middle name with it? I do like Samuel too though. (I have a friend who registered her DS as just Sam).
