We found out today that DC2 is going to be a girl, which is what we were both secretly hoping for..!

What do you think of Nancy? It is our current fore-runner and has been at the top of the list since finding out I was pregnant with DS.

Other names we love are:

Edith
Esther
Mathilda
Stella
Martha
Phoebe
April

TIA

Nancy, Esther, Stella, Mathilda, lovely.
Edith I don't like, along with Martha, I find them hardish names.
Phoebe is v popular.
April begs the obvious question ....
Congrats!

Well I like it, obviously!

redllamayellowllama · 01/05/2010 20:02

April is DH's left-field suggestion. The only real significance is that it is the month we got married, but I think this might be disgustingly twee and vomit-inducing.

Edith is one of his faves too - I'm not so keen as Evie/Edie seem to be very popular.

Cloelia - you've chosen our favourites in exactly the order we like them!

I love love love Nancy.

DS2 was going to be Nancy or Helena. Obviously HE isn't.

It's such a fantastic name - gutsy yet pretty, unpretentious, not many about. Makes me think of Swallows and Amazons and Nancy Mitford.

pooka · 01/05/2010 20:08

Nancy (yes yes)
Esther (like it)
Stella (beautiful name but would think of McCartney)
Martha (lovely name)
Phoebe (my great-aunt. I really really like it, curse Friends)
Mathilda (OK)
Edith
April (not so keen)

jonicomelately · 01/05/2010 20:10

Nancy was going to be my girls name (have two ds).

recireci · 01/05/2010 20:10

Nancy - OK
Edith - like
Esther - quite like
Mathilda - not keen

whywhywhydelilah · 01/05/2010 20:11

Nancy is a lovely name, so are Edith, Esther, Mathilda and Phoebe.

Martha is OK but I really dont like Stella.

April, what cloelia said.

dizzydixies · 01/05/2010 20:45

Mathilda - ok
Stella - beer
Martha - ok

April - ok

Mousesmummy · 01/05/2010 22:35

Spooky. . . I have an Esther and a Martha and if DC4 is a girl, Nancy is in my top 3!!!!
So obviously they are all lovely names - go for any of them!!!

MamaLazarou · 02/05/2010 10:09

Best name ever.

LuluF · 03/05/2010 13:15

Nancy is a great name - we have a three year old Nancy - AKA Fancy Pants.

I like them all, though - Pheobe being my least favourite, it's a lovely name - but there are so many now.

redllamayellowllama · 03/05/2010 19:59

I'm glad so many of these have got a positive response!

We've pretty much decided on Nancy. It's been my favourite girl's name for so long that I think I fell out of love with it a bit as I'd got so used to it.

I'm thinking of her as Nancy now, although we're not telling anyone in RL - it's nice for there to be some element of surprise.

Now, onto middle names...

I did that - had a wobble just before she was born, tried another few names - but couldn't see her as anything else. Definitely don't tell anyone until she arrives - we had ALL the comments, all those facial expressions (you know the ones).

Magaly · 04/05/2010 10:28

I love Nancy, Edith, Martha and Phoebe
I like Esther
I like Stella but I wouldn't use it.
April I just don't like. APE

GladioliBuckets · 04/05/2010 10:41

Oh I like all your names, have been on many a shortlist for me. Although agree April could be a little bit goody-twoshoes-US-TV-show-character.

I also like Marianne (Maggie for short.)

Jamieandhismagictorch · 04/05/2010 15:03

Nancy is great.

For second names, I really think that it's nice to choose a name that means something to you - to honour a friend, relative or someone else you admire

DumpyOldWoman · 04/05/2010 15:12

Nancy is a fabulous name.

Martha, Mathilda, Phoebe
then
Stella
Edith
Esther

and

April.

GetOrfMoiLand · 04/05/2010 15:35

Nancy is a lovely name.

Actually all your names on your list are excellent choices, apart from April which I really don't like.

piprabbit · 04/05/2010 15:39

Nancy is a great name. Always reminds me of Captain Nancy in the Swallows and Amazons books.

And of course you'll be able to buy her all the 'Fancy Nancy' books when she turns your house into a pink boudoir.

CaptainNancy · 04/05/2010 23:22

Glad to find another fan Piprabbit!

ki28 · 05/05/2010 11:45

I love nancy!! my best friends little girl is called nancy. Great name!!!!

redllamayellowllama · 05/05/2010 14:29

Lovely, more positive reponses. Haven't heard of the Fancy Nancy books, will check them out pre-emptively.

At the moment, I think we're going with Su for a middle name. Now I now this is a bit of a silly spelling and so on, but let me explain my logic. My grandma is Suze (soo-za) and I would like to honour that. My mum calls all of her daughters Su - I'm not really sure why - so it's a combination of the two.

DH already has his nose a little put out of joint after I campaigned tirelessly for DS to have my late grandfather's name as his middle name (Rolfe), so Su seems like a compromise.

DS2 was going to be Nancy. I love the name so much it makes me I shall never get to use it... so please use it and take great pride in your excellent taste on my behalf!!
