I'd like to name ds2 after my father in law, who is a stacey. I'm not too keen on stacey thoughwas thinking of going with Eustace which is the longer version. Is it a bit too PG Wodehouse? My other ds is an alistairdon't really go together do they? If I use it as a middle name, I was thinking of frederick eustace lastname. Opinions? I mentioned it to my mother and she was horrified.

instant thought was eustacian tube

Makes me think of Eustace Clarence Scrubb from the Chronicles Of Narnia. He wasn't nice at first but came good.

I don't like it but I'm not sure why. But as a middle name, why not?

Has your FIL only the one name?

meaniebrown · 01/05/2010 18:19

no, his middle name is vernon

I'd rather Vernon than Eustace, myself.

i'm with ohmeohmy!

mumofeightplusfour · 01/05/2010 18:40

useless eustace is all that springs to mind sorry

franke · 01/05/2010 18:45

Actually, I quite like it. ds1 has a friend called Justus which is pronounced almost the same way (here in Germany). I like Frederick too.

Northernlurker · 01/05/2010 18:45

Sorry - it's just awful

smallishsheep · 01/05/2010 18:46

sounds like a station

twosofar · 01/05/2010 18:47

My mum always used to say useless Eustace to us as well..hadn't thought of it until now. Very negative connotations...I wouldn't!

imahappycamper · 01/05/2010 20:54

Useless Eustace sprang to my mind too.

Crazycatlady · 01/05/2010 21:09

eustacian tube here too I'm afraid

mathanxiety · 01/05/2010 22:52

I like it. Reminds me of Eustace in the LP Hartley book, was it The Shrimp and the Anemone..

roselover · 01/05/2010 23:10

its lovely - in french they pronounce is U-stash - there is a church in Paris - called St Eustace -

nooka · 02/05/2010 04:11

I think that it's fine for a middle name, but not very easy as a first name. I didn't know that Stacey was a diminutive of Eustace, but surely Stacey would be quite tough too? If I heard of a family with children called Alistair and Eustace I think I'd probably assume they were very posh.
