Poppy or Nell/Nellie?

usually Penny.

Both poppy or nell are nice though.

traceybath · 28/04/2010 18:23

Well people will call her penny.

APassionateWoman · 28/04/2010 18:24

Nell or Penny.

I do know an Ope (Oh-pey), but she's the only one I've ever known of.

goingtoelope · 28/04/2010 18:26

Nellie

weegiemum · 28/04/2010 18:26

I quite like Nellie.

The incredibly professional and glam depute head of my kids school is called Nellie.

So that is what it conjures up for me!

hocuspontas · 28/04/2010 18:26

Those I've known have been Loopy, Poopy or Penis. But that's teenage girls for you

CheerfulYank · 28/04/2010 18:26

I just really like Poppy but am trying to think of a longer, more "formal" name IYSWIM.

mazzystartled · 28/04/2010 18:27

whatever you try to engineer it will be Penny

Poppy is an entirely different name

Sorry

dizzydixies · 28/04/2010 18:32

Penny, which is lovely or Nell, equally pretty

Thediaryofanobody · 28/04/2010 18:37

Penny
Pen
DD gets called Lopie by a cousin.

CakeandRoses · 28/04/2010 22:57

The Penelope I know is mostly 'Pen'. I also know a Nell (short for something else) which is great.

recireci · 28/04/2010 23:04

Penny

SE13Mummy · 29/04/2010 00:14

I know three Penelopes; one is 'Pen', another 'Penny' and the third, 'Pip'.

piprabbit · 29/04/2010 00:22

I know a Poppy-Mai if that helps.

kailie · 30/04/2010 14:34

Penny or Nelly. Must admit I've only ever known 2 Penelopes and they are both completely barking mad....so it's put me off what is quite a pretty name....

Rockbird · 30/04/2010 14:40

I know two and they are both Penny. Poppy is just ugh, have never got the attraction to that name.

CheerfulYank · 30/04/2010 15:51

I just think Poppy's cute for a little girl. I think it would be nice to have longer, more formal name like Penelope to fall back on when she got older.

I think if she were always called Poppy then that's what people would call her. I know a little Constance who's called Capi (rhymes with happy, long story behind it) and that's what she's always known as.

Rockbird · 30/04/2010 15:54

Well I know one Poppy, aged 2 same as DD and she is the most miserable, sulky little scrap I have ever set eyes on 12 months in the same group as DD and I never saw any expression other than a scowl on her face!

Penelope is lovely though, very underused.

loobylu3 · 30/04/2010 16:49

I love Penelope! My favourite nn is Nell.

4sophia · 30/04/2010 19:11

Thought of another, Lo?

fuzzybunny · 02/05/2010 10:52

Penelope is on my shortlist. I love it as a long name. Nn would def be Penny or Pen though NOT Poppy, which IMO isn't that nice and very popular in these parts. I think I know 4 under 1's.
thediaryofanobody - I like Lopie, that's a new one on me, very cute.

fuzzybunny · 02/05/2010 10:53

Oh forgot. The one and only Penelope I know gets called Sweet Pea.

thumbwitch · 02/05/2010 11:01

Penny or Pen mostly - although we did go through a phase of calling her Pen-ee-lope for fun.

None of the others would ever have crossed out minds.

CheerfulYank · 03/05/2010 15:53

I don't know any Poppys fuzzy, so that's probably why I like it. And I don't think Poppy from Penelope is that much of a stretch, any more than Peggy from Margaret or something.

Though Penelope is so pretty IMO that I would probably just end up using the whole name.

OP posts:
fuzzybunny · 04/05/2010 21:24

Yeah, I never quite get Peggy from Margaret either.

What's important is that you like the name, nobody elses opinions should really matter.
