HELP! Opinions on Shortlist please .......

Hi, I'm 33weeks with my first and the following is my shortlist, opinions please!
Our surname starts with A.

Max James
Charlie James
Arthur James

Esme
Isabella
Thea
Chloe
Amira

Middle name for a girl, Sophie or Lucy as as both family names, or any of the above mixed together???

I know that a couple of the girls names are very very popular which is putting me off slightly, but I do love them, are so pretty!

Thanks......

Boys names are all good, top pick would be Charles James (not Charlie).

Esme - ok
Isabella - beautiful name but know a billion of them, only to be called called Izzy which is a waste of a beautiful name IMO. Isabella Sophie is a lovely combo though.
Thea - my favourite of your list, but don't think it works so well with your middle names. Thea Sophie is the better of the two.
Chloe - too sweet for me - all I can think of is cloying Chloe. sorry.
Amira - Not keen - also am not a fan of alliteration as your last name starts with an A.

notso · 28/04/2010 12:30

I love Max and Maxwell, I can't use it as it's already in the family so you must.

Thea is my favourite of the girls list, I think Thea Sophie sounds nice.

Hortensia ffafenpfeffer

Ludicrous Banana

jellybeans · 28/04/2010 12:46

Max James...love it
Charlie James...ok but far too popular
Arthur James ...bit old manish for me

Esme...dislike
Isabella....love it but too popular and 'izzy'
Thea...like it
Chloe...like it
Amira...dislike

How about Gabriella? or Annabelle.

recireci · 28/04/2010 13:32

I like Max James best from your boys' names. Are you thinking of Max and Charlie as being short for Maximillian and Charles, or not?

I like Isabella, Chloe and Amira, and think Thea is OK. Not keen on Esme.

Amira Chloe
Amira Lucy
Amira Sophie
Isabella Sophie
Isabella Lucy
Chloe Isabella
Thea Lucy

would all be nice.

Sophie78 · 28/04/2010 13:56

Thanks all for input, interesting to hear what others make of the names.

Yes, for a boy Max James is my favorite too, I just like Max as it is, not short for anything.

I like Isabella but am not keen on NN 'Izzy' either, would use full name and NN 'Bella', which I love.

Can't use Annabella. Like Gabriella, but detest the NN 'Gabbie' (hmm)

Keep them coming!

Max James if a boy.

I don't really love any of the girls names, but if you do go with Isabella, do push for Belle or Bella as a nn - I honestly cannot understand why people take such a lovely name (and all the variations) and reduce it to the horrible, ugly 'Izzy'. I can say this as one of them.

SpiderWilliam · 28/04/2010 14:13

If you are concerned about the girls names being too popular then you should bear in mind that Charlie is v popular (possibly top 10), and that Max is not an unusual name anymore. There were two Max's at the playgroup we were at this morning. Popularity isn't necessarily a reason to avoid a name though, so if you love Max, go for it.

Sophie78 · 28/04/2010 14:19

I agree, Isabella (&all variations of) is a beautiful name & 'Izzy'is awful.

Its the girls names that I am struggling with most, change my mind week to week, must be the hormones!

We had pretty much decided on Max James for a boy, but thought I'd put it out there to public opinion. I still love the other two boys names but Max James is top at mo!

These are probably the BEST name suggestions so far today! Well done you!

Love all the girls names except the last, but my DDs are called Charlotte Marie and Chloe Amelia, so I'm a sucker for good proper names.

Not crazy about Arthur though. Its the knind of name that a child will hate all his life!

whywhywhydelilah · 28/04/2010 14:20

Max James - love
Charlie James - really love
Arthur James - love

Esme - like
Isabella - really don't like sorry
Thea - really love
Chloe - like
Amira - like

I think Sophie is definitely the best middle name. The only names I don't think you should put it with are Chloe and Esme, I think Lucy sounds better for those two.

Sophie78 · 28/04/2010 15:07

Thanks Happystarr, it's only taken me 33 weeks of soul searching & mind changing to come up with them! lol!

Gotta be the hardset thing, naming your baby, and I am so indescisive! I so want to find the right name that we love & for him/her to also love the name that we choose for him/her...... very very hard!

Sophie78 - please don't be put off by those telling you a name is too popular our DD1 is Isabella after various family members and she is the ONLY ONE WE KNOW - it is popular for a reason, it is a beautiful name with a lovely meaning and ours isn't an Issy/Izzy either

my great aunt was Isabella known as Isa. ours is Ella

wait until baby is born before making your decision - all your names are lovely

Sophie78 · 28/04/2010 15:32

Thanks Dizzydixies, both of your NN's are lovely too, I do love this name! Think its a good idea to wait until baby is born, can see if any of the names on list fit him/her then

dizzydixies · 28/04/2010 15:38

oh and the name we chose for DD2 was deemed slightly more unusual, we know of 3 the same age in neighbouring villages AND its the fastest growing girls name this year

you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't so PLEASE just go with the one you love

mathanxiety · 28/04/2010 16:21

I love Max James.

For girls -- I like Chloe, Thea and Amira, but I also love Lucy, as a first name. Lucy Amira?

henry37 · 28/04/2010 17:19

max and isabella .

Wolfblass · 28/04/2010 19:49

As opposed to Amira, how about Amara?

Sophie78 · 29/04/2010 09:06

Can't use Lucy as a first name as it's my sisters name, could get confusing!

Yes, Amara is nice too, haven't heard of that one before.

mathanxiety · 29/04/2010 14:36

I know an Amari, who went to school with oldest DD.
