I love it but my husband says it sounds like a vitamin drink...

It does mean life (from latin), and maybe it is a lovely name, if your dead set on it then you could consider 'Veeta' as it is a recognised varient, same meaning, and a bit less likely to be constantly mis-pronounced.

I think we're just trying to save your future DD from teasing is all!

good luck

5DollarShake · 28/04/2010 13:59

It wouldn't occur to me to pronounce it V-eye-ta.

And on that basis, I really wouldn't choose to spell it Veeta.

I'd far rather go with a spelling that doesn't look the c word-- made up (even if its not) than correct a few people who mispronounce it.

I honestly don't think Vita is any more tease-worthy than many names out there, though would probably recommend a Sunday-best name and use Vita as a nickname. Even Vita S-W was Victoria.

champagnesupernova · 28/04/2010 14:04

I love it but surname begins with V so not an option for me.

Tocca · 28/04/2010 14:06

I'd think of Sackville-West and what a great name.

gagamama · 28/04/2010 14:43

Not good if your surname begins with L, or is Min.

Another who thinks it sounds like a vitamin drink, sorry.

belgo · 28/04/2010 14:44

I like it, sounds vaguely glamorous.

Magaly · 28/04/2010 14:51

no it has to be disneyvita

Actually, I quite like it. But I don't love it.

Rockbird · 28/04/2010 15:00

One of those drinks you have when you're ill, like Complan. Sorry.

mathanxiety · 28/04/2010 16:25

I know a Vida and also a Zita.

I think Vita would be associated with Ryvita.

CJCregg · 28/04/2010 16:31

FFS, it's got about as much association with Ryvita as Emma has with dilemma.

Go for it, OP, it's a beautiful, classy name. Nothing to do with bloody vitamins or crispbread.

APassionateWoman · 28/04/2010 16:42

Wasnt Vita Madonna's alter-ego in her whole Erotica phase?

Sounds Germanic and vaguely reminds me of Kabaret

Rockbird · 28/04/2010 16:42

Yeah but it's also not a very nice name

GladioliBuckets · 28/04/2010 17:25

That was Dita Parlow APW.

GladioliBuckets · 28/04/2010 17:25

Vitabix

Don't like

cloelia · 29/04/2010 19:55

It makes me think of St Vitus' Dance which is a not very nice disorder, sorry.

BendyBob · 29/04/2010 19:58

I like quite like it. I also like Veda (which is from fab Joan Crawford film Mildred Pierce)

MamaLazarou · 29/04/2010 20:48

Vita wears a lot of heavy silver bracelets, has an enormous cleavage and a deep, gravelly laugh and smells of Rothmans.

usualsuspect · 29/04/2010 21:57

I've never heard of anyone called Vita in my life

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/04/2010 22:59

It means "beef" in Romanian.

It's DD2's middle name.

We were living in Romania when she was born...

ninah · 29/04/2010 23:03

Yes

twosofar · 30/04/2010 08:15

Also reminds me of Vita Sackville West (hers was a nn for Victoria) - has glamorous 1920's Bloomsbury group connotations - artistic/sophisticated/worldly.

Very nice

kailie · 30/04/2010 08:59

yep - I'm with your hubby and 2 old ...health drink or crisp bread.....
