I remember a baby who was abandoned in a hospital car park just before my first baby was born. They had a photo of him in the local paper, and he honestly was a very beautiful (and very blond) baby, and the nurses in the Special Care Baby Unit who were looking after him named him Beau. It really suited him. When DD was born a few days later she spent her first day in the same unit, and I always remember that poor abandoned baby boy. I believe he was being adopted, so he probably has a different name now, but still that name pulls my heart strings a little when I remember him

CinderellaRach · 27/04/2010 10:56

That's so sadhow can people carry a baby for nine months then do that?Although you could say it's better to do that than take it home to be abused like some poor innocent babies.
Cruel world.

It is a cruel world. I guess the poor mother must have been in desperate circumstances in one way or another (teen concealed pregnancy, abusive relationship, terrible poverty...who knows?) so I feel for her too, and I hope Beau is happy and healthy now with his new family somewhere. I found a link to the story (odd it's in the Yorkshire Post though!)

CinderellaRach · 27/04/2010 12:18

Wow just read it!I would love to know what happened to him. Thanks for that shergar!

There was a boy like that here in Scotland, left in a police station, and the cop who found him was called Garry, so that's what they named teh baby.

He was adopted, though.

How scared that mother must have been.

At least she left him where he'd be found.

CinderellaRach · 27/04/2010 12:29

But surely the mother could escape to a mother/baby hostel or refuge if things really were that bad? It's her baby!!

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 27/04/2010 12:33

Not surely. At least two babies abandonded in Scotland were East Asia and Asia/Indian or Pakistani in origin.

There may have been ramifications for the mother's entire family if it were found out she had a baby so she decided to do what she did.

It's hard to know, but it's not seen as an option for some women, sadly.

CinderellaRach · 27/04/2010 12:39

Yes circumstances must be terrible and if not part of EU then I guess they're scared they'll be deported back with their baby to God knows what!?!
So sad.

A child grows into their name and it's other peoples preconceived stereotypical views that taints the name. And nobody dumps a baby without really not having any other option that they can think of. If you haven't walked a mile in someone elses shoes, how can you possible second guess their motives or mind state? And what's wrong with being a hillbilly or redneck?

raphaelsmama · 27/04/2010 15:25

Beau was top of my list for a boy, and Bo for a girl until I read this thread. Now I've been completly put off it for either sex!

CinderellaRach · 27/04/2010 15:36

That's a shame raphaelsmama.I still absolutely love it.I guess I only asked for opinions in the first place so I would know what people would think or say behind my back!!

raphaelsmama · 27/04/2010 15:49

I suppose I care what other people think too much but the comments about body odour and chavs turned me off! I absolutely love Bodhi too which is similar bu DH hates it unfortunately. What other names are u considering CinderellaRach?

CinderellaRach · 27/04/2010 15:59

Bodhi is nice
I'm also considering Remy and Finn.Middle name Alexander.
Dh wants Jesse. We already have an Ellis James.I love Beau though and was slightly disappointed that it got such negative feedback!!
Apart from Bodhi/Beau what other names do you like raphaelsmama??
I'm finding really difficult this time round!

raphaelsmama · 27/04/2010 16:12

Me too! We already have a Raphael Elias and would like one of the names to be a muslim name as Dh is Moroccan. So with regards to those I like Eisa and Idriss. As for a more "British" name I'm really struggling to find something I absolutely love. I heard Rayn today which Im considering. Actually I really like Remy now you've mentioned it!! Jesse is a cool name and quite popular in the US again, I couldn't have it as my sister's called Jessie! But I love it for a boy.

CinderellaRach · 27/04/2010 16:28

I considered Raphael as I love Raffa/Raffi/Rafe but dh wouldn't agree! But Raphael Elias is beautiful!
Dh's sister is called Jess too but he thinks we can get away with it!
Seems like we have similar taste!Good luck in the rest of your pregnancy and keep me posted on names that you're considering!

Ps.Eisa and Idriss are lovely sound very exotic compared to some of our British names

I don't think I would have any preconceived ideas or negative thoughts if I heard that a boy was called Beau - I'd probably be intrigued to see what he/his parents were like, as it's not a run of the mill name.

Its one of those names that really depends on the person's ability to carry it off. On the right person, I think it would be a great name.

To be safe it would be kind to give him a tame middle name that he could use if he turns out not to be the name-Beau-carrying type in later years.

Athrawes · 28/04/2010 10:00

I used to teach a boy called Beau who was big lumpen and not at all beautiful but who did say that goling to prison that once had taught him a lesson...mmm, hard not to be swayed by less than lovely kids with OK names.

CakeandRoses · 28/04/2010 10:11

Athrawes: Good point. That is the risk with a name as meaningful as Beau isn't it?

But I guess no parent would imagine they are going to have a child that is anything less than beautiful!

WelliesAndPyjamas · 28/04/2010 10:20

There's an absolutely stunning little girl in ds1's class called Beau. At first I wasn't sure I liked it when I heard him say her name but it really suits her.
