Am 37 weeks preg with DS

Have a DD called Ella.

Struggling for boys names, like William, Thomas and Benjamin but our friends have those babies and Thomas does not work with our surname anyway.

We have pretty much (98%ish) decided on Alex/Alexander.

I have one question, is it a bit wet? My worry is that I am naming him a geeky name?! as pretty as it may be.

I have always thought of it as a cool name, and all the boys and girls we know called Alex are cool and popular! Go for it!

I've known some very cool boys called Alex over the years. It's not wet at all!

It is an exceptionally good name.

I can see Alexander as my mechanic or just as easily as my barrister.

It means defender of Man.

It has lots of good variantions.

*disclaimer, I do have an Alex.

Not wet at all! All the Alexs I know are manly!
I have an Alexander, 8 months old (we mainly call him Alex now though, especially as DS1 can say it easily) and I love the name.

Thank you, I do think it can be cool.

DH was worried it was "wet" and it got me thinking. I can see how some people might think it is. I dont know why but I imagine the milky bar kid to be an Alex ... but still love it and I guess the milky bar kid is quite cute really.

I dont know too many Alex's either.

I've got an Alex! (he is just Alex though not Alexander) and he is a bit soft but not wet iyswim (7yo) - very much a typical boy!!

My DS is Alex/Alexander - obviously I love it. I think it is a very strong name - the opposite of wet or geeky! Xander is another nice nn.

I don't think it's wet or geeky at all - it's a lovely name. But I do wonder about Ella and Alex together. They sound very similar.

I have an Alex too - just Alex - and I still love it as much as I did when we chose it. I knew a lovely one when I was at an impressionable age and he was very cool indeed. Popular but not too popular I think.

I have thought about the Ella and Alex dilemma, it sounds odd to shout them both. Sounds better if you shout Alex first or maybe "you two monkeys come here NOW"

DS is Alexander (we call him Alex most of the time) He's 3 and a definitely not wet. He can already use a computer mouse though so maybe he'll turn out to be geeky

Alexander is my youngests middle name and i really really wish i had used it as his actual first name, too late to change it now i think ...........so yes i love the name and think it sounds very strong

I have an Alexander and he is uber cool and not remotely wet We call him Sacha, the Russian nn for Alexander.

I really like Xander as a shortened nickname for Alexander. Actually quite like Sandy as well.

My Alexander is 5 years old and we call him "Alec" - the particulalry scottish version, and slightly less popular version....I love it, but always have to tell people "its Alec with a C"!

BLimey, never even crossed my/our minds to consider that Alex(ander) was a wet or geeky name!! Am actually quite that anyone would think that tbh and can only think that your DH must have known someone like that who was called Alex to get that association in his head.

Top name, love it. All sorts of potential for nicknames too.

I'm an Alex. It's cool.

Another bonus is that there aren't many Alex's at the moment, I don't think there are any at my DC's school, I think it was more popular 20 or 30 years ago.

So it's classic, cool, but fairly unusual these days.

Can't believe you think Alex is wet! What about Alexander the Great?!!

I think it's one of the strongest names out there. Go for it!

All the Alex's I've met (men and women) have all been very cool and very successful!
