I'm feeling brave so do your worst. Names we agree on include:

Boys

Elijah
Isaac
Stanley
Vincent
Jacob
Cassius
Guy
Jonah
George
Rowan
St irling
Sonny
Marley

Girls

Amelie
Matilda
Charlotte
Georgia
Daisy
Josephine
Skye
Mae
Pippa
Betsy
Eloise
Calista
Paige
Violet

Any other suggestions welcome. The surname is three syllables and begins with Thorn....... so Rose is out and anything with a 'th' in. I'm worried the poor little thing might have a lisp.

Three months to go so plenty of time still to mull it over but out of the ones there I like -

Boys...
Jonah
George
Elijah
Isaac

Girls...
Violet
Mae
Georgia
Amelie

My DH picked both of my DCs names. Im just rubbish at deciding anything!

JosephineClaire · 19/04/2010 09:12

I like...

Jacob
Jonah
George
Rowan

and

Matilda
Charlotte
Josephine
Betsy

Lovely names (although, I am biased on Josephine!)

I like:

I do like some of your others but think a 3 syllable first name with a 3 syllable surname might be a bit much?

debaronz · 19/04/2010 09:17

My honest opinion:

Boys

Elijah - too biblical. Not fond of Eli either.
Isaac - meh
Stanley - name of someone working for the Inland Revenue/used car salesman
Vincent - Are you giving birth to an old man?
Jacob - If you don't mind people calling him Jake
Cassius - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Guy - Not bad, although quite posh.
Jonah - Unusual in a bad way
George - too bland
Rowan - sounds/looks like a girls name. Reminds me of Lord of the Rings.
St irling - St Irling or Stirling? Not a very nice name either way.
Sonny - DEAR LORD IN HEAVEN NO
Marley - name of a dog (see popular book/movie Marley and Me)

Girls

Amelie - no
Matilda - no
Charlotte - so so so common
Georgia - she will be called George
Daisy - NO. No woman can be taken seriously with this name.
Josephine - no way Josephine.
Skye - Same as with Daisy, but people will think she's American too
Mae - good name
Pippa - NO. See above re Daisy and Skye
Betsy - See above re Daisey, Skye and Pippa
Eloise - old woman's name
Calista - sounds like a fictional witch
Paige - I actually quite like this name
Violet - not a very nice name in general

MrsJohnDeere · 20/04/2010 15:58

Like

Jacob
George

Amelie
Matilda
Georgia
Violet

twolittlemonkeys · 20/04/2010 16:00

These are the names I like.

Boys

Elijah
Isaac (love)
Jacob (love)
Jonah
George (love, though very common, DS1 has 3 in his class of 20 at preschool)

Girls

Amelie (love it although lots of people will think it's meant to be Amelia)
Matilda
Charlotte
Josephine
Eloise (my favourite off your list)

legallyblond · 20/04/2010 16:08

We have similar tastes!!

Matilda, Calista, Josephine and Eloise all were on my shortlist!

We have, in fact, ended up with Matilda as the only one on our "final", take it into the hospital and see what the baby looks like shortlist of 3 (the others are Grace and Clemency).

But, my faves are (obviously):
Matilda
Josephine (can't remember why we rejected..)
Eloise (rejected because DH's boss has called her daughter this)
Calista (rejcted because I felt it sounded vaguely medical...)

Really don't like Violet by the way...

mathanxiety · 20/04/2010 20:10

Elijah -- manages to a bit girly and too ponderous at the same time, imo
Isaac -- Love
Stanley -- just a bit too old mannish for me
Vincent -- like a lot
Jacob -- very popular I think
Cassius -- nice
Guy -- like
Jonah -- Love
George -- like
Rowan -- a bit too horticultural with Thorn-
Stirling -- sounds like a brand of clothing with Thorn- in the surname
Sonny -- NOOOOO
Marley -- nice, but prefer Harley

Amelie -- wispy and very popular, lots and lots of Emiia/Amelias/Millies around
Matilda -- Like a lot
Charlotte -- Like a lot
Georgia -- dislike, can't put my finger on it, but this seems old and fusty to me
Daisy -- a weed, insubstantial
Josephine -- Love
Skye -- Dislike
Mae -- far too popular
Pippa -- insubstantial
Betsy -- like as nn for Elizabeth (so maybe not with Thorn-)
Eloise Too many Elles and Ellies every name that starts with El will get shortened to Ellie, and there are thousands of them
Calista -- Love
Paige -- don't like, too 'American' imo
Violet -- another weed; makes me think 'shrinking violet', plus, paradoxically, sounds like 'violent'

Hulababy · 20/04/2010 22:26

Of OP, I prefer:

Boys

Jacob - but not keen on Jake as nn
George

Girls

Amelie
Matilda - lovely name
Daisy
