Two friends have recently had babies and called them Harper and Harlow...

I LOVE both of these names but obviously can't use them :p

Can anyone suggest similar sort of names? Unusual and kind of old fashioned sounding I suppose...

Thanks!

For a boy or a girl?

They're just surnames, aren't they? Would other surnames work?

Didn't Gwen Stefani call her child Harlow, or am I getting confused?

Archer

Isn't Harlow the name of a pretty grim town in Essex?

You could go down the Marlow/Marley route, but I'm not the best person to advise as I don't like this type of name.

I think Harlow is a pretty grim name, having been born there. Harper's quite pretty though - like Harper Lee.

How about Harvey if you like "Har" names?

Hmmm... laughing out loud, you all have a point about harlow :p

Harper is still nice though...

are some surname-as-first-name suggestions, but there are as many as there are surnames. Scottish surnames seem to be used a lot as first names.

So is the connection 1940s American (Jean Harlow, Harper Lee) or just surnames full stop?
