Oh it's horrible. Tabby?

What about Thea or Martha ? They have some of the same sounds.

tartyhighheels · 14/04/2010 16:41

It's a cat name

TrillianAstra · 14/04/2010 16:43

As long as he hates the name Tabitha, and doesn't hate your DD who is already called Tabitha, I don't see what the big deal is.

I'm sure there are plenty of names that you hate.

sassysass · 14/04/2010 16:48

Tabby is pretty awful as is Tabs. How about Agatha? Aggie is cute (well I think so)

alarkaspree · 14/04/2010 16:49

How can you possibly need to ask? It is his child too. You have to pick a name you both like.

I am totally baffled by this idea that the mother gets to pick the child's name.

Greensleeves · 14/04/2010 16:49

I couldn't name our child without dp's agreement, it's just wrong

choose something you both like! It's part of the fun!

Jaggers · 14/04/2010 16:51

I just love that name however tarty you are not the first person to point out it's a cat name.

May have to think of something else. At least DP and I have agreed on names if la bump is a boy.

I wouldn't chose a name with us being in agreement I was being flipant. But we just seem to have very different ideas on girls names.

twolittlemonkeys · 14/04/2010 16:58

Sorry it makes me think of a cat. Also you need to both like the name. Keep thinking...

Missus84 · 14/04/2010 17:02

How about Talitha as a compromise? Similar sound but no cat connotations, and can be Tally as a nickname.

Horton · 14/04/2010 17:15

My DH didn't much like Tabitha when I first suggested it. After I had given birth he was prepared to let me call her anything I liked. She's called Tabitha. He likes it now and agrees it really suits her.

We compromised, pre-birth, on Matilda. I'd almost come round to it but I just knew she was a Tabitha when I saw her. And I like both Tabby and Tabs although ours is usually called Tibby (don't like this, she made it up herself) or Topsy.

ThatVikRinA22 · 14/04/2010 17:17

i quite like it but i am old enough to remember "bewitched".

trinitybleu · 15/04/2010 15:20

We have a Tabitha and we shorten it to T. It was supposed to be Abi but that never fitted her personality. She's T.

mathanxiety · 15/04/2010 15:25

I love Tabitha, but I think you should write lists and see if there's anything in common. You each should come up with 15 - 20 names and then start narrowing it down.

Have you considered Keziah/ Cassia, or Dinah?

ozmetric · 15/04/2010 17:28

Sorry but I don't like it. What other names do you like? What names does your DP like?

AbFabT · 15/04/2010 23:05

I LOVE the name Tabitha. But yes, you need to both agree. Talitha, as someone suggested, could work as a compromise?

Tabitha doesn't make me think of cats at all.
Tom does, but that doesn't stop many people from calling their child Tom, does it!

BitOfFun · 15/04/2010 23:08

Can you go for other witchy names like Abigail or Samantha?

AbFabT · 15/04/2010 23:12

My name is Abigail! I didn't realise it was a witchy name!

(I love the name Samantha too, btw!)

BitOfFun · 15/04/2010 23:16

My dd1 is Abigail- I love it too, honestly! And one of my favourite MNers is Samantha. I guess I see Abigail as witchy after the Salem story in The Crucible, and Samantha and Tabitha because of Bewitched.

AbFabT · 15/04/2010 23:34

Oh yes, I do remember The Crucible/Abigail character.
Nice choice for DD1 too!
Loved Bewitched! (The old tv series, not the film remake!).

OP, what about Abigail then!

I think Tabitha is a really great name but also think that your dh should have a say.
