DD3 is due in a month and we've pretty much decided on Ava but I want a slightly unusual middle name that isn't the usual Rose/Mae etc..

I already have a Lily so a flower/plant name would be nice (but not essential).
Ava Willow I quite like...

Also have had a couple of looks when I say she's going to be called Ava. It's nice isn't it? Not particularly weird or chavvy? We love it as do the family...

Aww, Ava is a stunningly beautiful name! very rare, and it reminds me of Ava gardner,...who is the most beautiful women ever to have grace this planet!

Not Chavvy at all.

My girls name (unrequired as it turned out!) was Sorrel,...which is a lovely little woodland flower that grows predominantly close to becks and streams. That would be nice with Ava.

StealthPolarBear · 11/04/2010 05:41

Ava is a lovely name, but I think it is becoming more common - but don't let that put you off!

lovesaruby · 11/04/2010 07:58

We have an Ava - shes 3 and the name really suits her, shes beautiful! Its not weird or chavvy and Ive had nothing but nice comments about her name. Wonderful choice! Oh, and shes the only one we've come across in real life! Go for it!

5DollarShake · 11/04/2010 09:33

It's not rare! On the list I found it was ranked No. 21 out of 100, up 18 places, so definitely on the increase.

It's such a lovely name though - if you love it, go for it! I know if we have a second DD, DH will be pushing for this.

As for middle names...

Jasmine
Sophia
Elizabeth
Maria (actually no, scrap that one )
Charlotte

Ineedsomesleep · 11/04/2010 10:11

Rare? Really? What part of the country are you in Littlepuska? Its really not that rare, if fact I'd say is quite popular.

itsybitsy08 · 11/04/2010 10:18

I know three but it is a lovley name!
Nice names are popular because they are nice and most people like them so i dont see it as a bad thing!

Ineedsomesleep · 11/04/2010 10:27

I don't using a popular name as a bad thing either, was just a bit dumbfounded by the rare comment

PuppyMonkey · 11/04/2010 10:31

DD2's best friend is an Ava and there were at least three at the kids club on the holiday we went on last week. All three-ish. So not rare. Nice though. Can't think of a middle name to go with it, but it doen't matter as no-one will ever use it anyway!!

itsybitsy08 · 11/04/2010 10:36

Yeah i know what you mean! Interesting to know what area littlepuska is from!

itsybitsy08 · 11/04/2010 10:50

And was just thinking willow is a great middle name! Ava willow has a nice ring to it - makes me smile!

lovechoc · 11/04/2010 11:07

It is on the increase for sure, I went to visit a new baby called Ava just the other week actually and I know another one locally too. It is a popular name but as others have said, if that's not putting you off and you both are happy with your choice then go for it.

hana · 11/04/2010 11:15

is very common in london at the moment, lots of under 5s with that name

is pretty but v common!

bandgeek · 11/04/2010 11:18

I love it, but then it is my dd's name She will be 4 next week, I didn't know any Ava's when she was born but have heard of quite a few since then.

Her middle name is Jean

suwoo · 11/04/2010 11:23

I love it too, but here in Manchester it is heard of fairly often. I know three.

bandgeek · 11/04/2010 11:25

I blame Myleene Klass grr

Bucharest · 11/04/2010 13:24

I think it's faddy and I imagine its popularity is still on the up. There are going to be a lot of them around.

sparkleshine · 11/04/2010 19:06

I love the name and if i have a daughter would love to use it but my DP doesnt

alliwantissleep · 11/04/2010 19:19

I love Ava. My Ava is 5 and the name wasn't even in the top 100 when she was born. Very rare to find Ava's same age but there are lots of younger ones about now (also blame Mylenne Klass!). Think it is going to continue to increase in popularity. It is a beautiful name, can't be shortened and is easily pronounced.

LittlePushka · 11/04/2010 21:16

Its rare in the part of North Yorkshire I am from, belive me!! Anyway, it matters not whether it is rare or popular - it is a beautiful name

KatnKankles · 11/04/2010 21:36

Thanks girls.

Considering I have a Lily and a Jessica, popularity is not too much of an issue for me!

Pleased you like it.

Oh and I do like Ava Sorrel but Dh not keen... think she might be Ava Willow but I agree, middle names are hardly ever used although it is nice to have a cool one as opposed to mine which is the bog standard 'Jane' of the 70s/80s

suwoo · 11/04/2010 22:16

Ava Sorrel is lovely.

KAEKAE · 12/04/2010 17:44

Its a lovely name, my DD middle name infact. BUT it is SO popular! I now know quite a few.

mama2moo · 12/04/2010 22:02

My 10 week old dd is called Ava May! I love it and everyone else has commented on how nice it is as it 'goes'!

Ineedsomesleep · 14/04/2010 12:42

Sorrel is a nice name too and I've only ever met one.

ozmetric · 14/04/2010 15:07

Sorrel sounds too much like sorry.
