It IS a horrible name, isn't it?

Someone is trying to sell it to me. I am sure I hate it but they are banging on so much I am possibly almost changing my mind.

lol, it's ok, not something i would use myself though

merryberry · 09/04/2010 22:03

it's not loveable, no.
sorry to Jonqui - shortened version, that lovely jolly rotound, do anything for anyone guy i've known for 30 years. but no.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 09/04/2010 22:04

Junkie? Not keen.

LadyThompson · 09/04/2010 22:58

I think it's rather pretty. But perhaps for a middle name.

bellissima · 10/04/2010 11:57

Howabout Jonquil Narcissus? Most Spring-like.

Karmann · 10/04/2010 13:18

My sister had a donkey called Jonquil!

LynetteScavo · 10/04/2010 13:25

I met a Jonquil once. I was only about 8, but I sniggered inwardly. Luckily his parents could afford to educate him privately.

nowherewoman · 10/04/2010 13:31

I used to work somewhere that did a fabric called primatex jonquil. It was a pale yellow colour. Does that help?

nowherewoman · 10/04/2010 13:38

Just googled it and realised it is the name of a pale shade of yellow.

mathanxiety · 11/04/2010 00:29

For a girl, nice. For a boy,

5DollarShake · 11/04/2010 09:36

I think of daffodils.

Don't give it to a boy unless you're particularly heartless!

CuppaTeaJanice · 11/04/2010 17:25

It makes me think of testicles. I wonder why.........

hocuspontas · 11/04/2010 17:28

How do you pronounce it? Is it Jon-kill or Jon-quill? Either way I don't think I like it

DebiNewberry · 11/04/2010 17:30

I think it's a pretty girls name.

the latter, hocus.

jabberwocky · 11/04/2010 17:31

No, there are plenty of other very nice flower names. Don't let someone else convince you of a name. You will live to regret it.

hocuspontas · 11/04/2010 17:33

Thanks!

It doesn't trip off the tongue very well to me

swanandduck · 12/04/2010 13:46

Don't like it at all and it is bound to end up being shortened to something else (Jonny? Jonky?).

EndangeredSpecies · 12/04/2010 13:48

I'd rarely say a name was horrible but this really is. I bet for every 1 person that likes it you'd meet 35,000 that hate it.

yellowflowers · 15/04/2010 13:54

I thought it was french for daffodil

AitchTwoZone · 15/04/2010 13:56

i bloody KNEW it could be a boy's name. when that daft bbc woman came on here (jonquil panting fcs) i thought it was a bloke (because it was SUCH a sucky idea) and was roundly told off for getting it wrong.

anyhoo.

not a nice name imo. a bit wafty and pretentious and doesn't even make a nice noise, with 'ill' at the end.

muminthemiddle · 16/04/2010 23:41

I once painted my bedroom that shade. It is a yellow colour-very nice it was too.

ozmetric · 16/04/2010 23:56

I don't like it.
