My SIL is expecting a baby girl and can't decide between these two names. I prefer Imogen and so does her best friend, but MIL prefers Eliza.

I have an Eliza, but Imogen is absolutely lovely too, IMO

They have excellent taste in names!

Bonsoir · 09/04/2010 17:01

Eliza is really much, much prettier than Imogen.

hocuspontas · 09/04/2010 17:02

Scrudd - I'm so jealous. I wanted Eliza for dd2 but was shouted down. 15 years later I still feel annoyed!

So swan, definitely Eliza.

Scrudd · 09/04/2010 17:02

Be warned though, my Eliza has dropped the 'E' and is now liza. Lizaaaaa if you look at her facebook page

randomimposter · 09/04/2010 17:10

Eliza
LOVELY LOVELY...

Imogen is ok.

5DollarShake · 09/04/2010 17:40

Eliza is lovely.

Am not at all keen on Imogen, but am definitely in the minority on this.

jellybeans · 09/04/2010 18:06

Imogen, Eliza old fashioned.

SqueezyB · 09/04/2010 18:26

I love them both! Both would be on my list but DH turned his nose up at Eliza for some reason.

Only problem with Eliza is it makes me think of the song - 'there's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza...'

loobylu3 · 09/04/2010 18:36

Definitely Eliza- I love it.
I don't dislike Imogen but much prefer Eliza.

Raahh · 09/04/2010 18:49

Imogen is top of my list for dc3, if a girl. DH cannot be persuaded, although everyone else i know think it is lovely.

Eliza is also lovely , quite popular round here. Couldn't use it, as my middle name (and dd's) is Elizabeth. And DS is Elliot....

What about Imogen Eliza? (or does she want to 'save' one of the names for the next one??)

deaddei · 09/04/2010 18:52

Love them both, but knew an Imogen who was a bit psycotic....
I know that's not spelt right, but the 1st glass of wine is going down well!

hendo77 · 09/04/2010 18:55

Imogen. I'm not at all biased as my dd born in December is called this! I love it and absolutely everyone has commented on what a lovely name it is...

Eliza is OK too though...!

mathanxiety · 09/04/2010 18:56

I think Eliza has a lot more style to it than Imogen, which always seems to me to be a plain and 'worthy' name. So Eliza.

plimsolls · 09/04/2010 20:05

What about thinking of possible nn and then using that t decide....

Eliza- Ellie, Ella, Elle, Liz, Lizzie, Liza, ZaZa?

Imogen- Immie, Immo, Jenny, Jen, errr, Modge? Modgie?

I think they are both lovely names. Eliza is cooler, Imogen is prettier, ifyswim

SilveryMoon · 09/04/2010 20:08

I much prefer Imogen.
If I ever have a girl, that's what I'll call her

henry37 · 10/04/2010 18:17

Eliza i love dont like Imogen.

laisee · 11/04/2010 09:59

Imogen - we know a very cute one with the nn Impy.

Nancy10 · 11/04/2010 10:30

Eliza is one of my chosen names if dc4 is a girl. I like Imogen but prefer Eliza!

ozmetric · 11/04/2010 17:28

I don't really like either, but of the two I would say Imogen.

EsmeWatson · 12/04/2010 01:02

Love Eliza - much much nicer name of the two
Imogen is ok but I would never use it - sounds frumpy to me

menomena · 12/04/2010 01:52

I really like both but personally I would pick Imogen (maybe with Eliza as middle name?)

juneybean · 12/04/2010 01:53

Eliza!

Tobermory · 12/04/2010 11:34

My fave of the two is Eliza, which I think is quite elegant though not sure about shortenings.

DH wanted Imogen for DC2 but I'm not convinced somewhow.
