My SIL is expecting a couple of months ahead of me and has chosen the name Lily - but she is struggling to find a pretty middle name to fit.

Surname is double-barrelled...

Any suggestions? Thanks

NOT Rose. I think that's a fairly common middle name.

I'd try and choose a meaningful name for the middle one - a friend, relative, or someone you admire

lyra41 · 07/04/2010 18:54

Got to be Rose I think, so pretty.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/04/2010 18:55

OOOPs!

lifeas3plus1 · 07/04/2010 19:29

Grace or Mae.

All the Girls around here are called Lily Grace or Lily Mae.

sassysass · 07/04/2010 19:31

Agree with others, please not Mae! So many Lily-Maes round here.

Lily Florence is very nice.

alice
freya

Slartybartfast · 07/04/2010 19:36

will she use both names?

Slartybartfast · 07/04/2010 19:36

beth

MrsHappy · 07/04/2010 19:54

Not Ella either.

I think middle names should be a name you really really love but that you wouldn't use as a first name, for whatever reason. My DD2 has a very unusual second name. I chose it because it is beautiful but I just didn't have the balls to use it as a first name.

And with something short like Lily I would be inclined to go for something a bit longer. I heart Harriet for a middle name...

getawiggleon · 07/04/2010 20:00

Lily Florence
Lily Isobel
Lily Alexa
Lily Sophia

BillieJackson · 07/04/2010 20:06

I think middle names should have a meaning - after a relative, a friend, a lovely midwife, a favourite author. Anything but the dreaded Rose/May/Grace (all nice names in their own right, but just so unoriginal as middle names).

My little one is called Lily August. August is a family name, my mother's name was Augustina and my Gran's name was Augusta so I wanted to change it slightly but keep the same idea. I also know of a Lily Tuesday which I really like.

ScallopBlackpuddingandpeapuree · 07/04/2010 23:21

Lily Elena

Lily Josephine

I know a Lily Jasmine but its a bit flowery

clpsmum · 08/04/2010 08:57

please NOT Rose or Mae

bella

teamcullen · 08/04/2010 09:11

My niece called her DD Lillie Marie. I think that sounds sweet.

Not sure why she chose that spelling but its her choice and it sounds the same anyway.

Skegness · 08/04/2010 09:15

I like family connections for middle names. Or, as MrsHappy says, more outlandish names that aren't so suitable for 1st names if ytou're lily livered like me.

twosofar · 08/04/2010 09:39

Anything except Rose, Grace, Mae or May...or indeed Sue a' la Kerry Katona

IMHO long names sound quite nice after a short first name eg

Lily Alexandra
Lily Margaret
Lily Beatrice
Lily Charlotte
Lily Josephine
Lily Catherine
Lily Annabel
Lily Isobel

etc etc

MrsHyde · 08/04/2010 09:42

I have a Lily Summer. Was going to be Lily Serena but she turned out not very serena at all....

crumpette · 08/04/2010 09:45

Alexandra

ZZZenAgain · 08/04/2010 09:57

Soemthing a bit more solid I would think: Alexandra would work, Victoria something like that. I wouldn't go for a second name of the same type personally

Psammead · 08/04/2010 10:56

Arabella? I think it has a nice ring to it.

notso · 08/04/2010 11:12

Lily Frances

Lily Megan

Lily Hanna

WitchyWooWoo · 08/04/2010 12:35

Lily Rae?

ok will be serious now,

Lily Elizabeth
Lily Louise
Lily Marie was nice like teamcullen suggested
Lily Anne

(for some unknown reason i think old fashioned names sound amazing with the name lily)

stressheaderic · 08/04/2010 12:41

With having a double-barrelled surname, I think you'd be better with something short.
Lily Beth and Lily Kate are my favourites.
