For a boy? It means little lark.

I know it's a bit leftfield...I don't necessarily mind that..but what do you think?

reminds me of Philip Larkin

Fimbow · 05/04/2010 23:11

No, no, no. Do you want the child to be ridiculed. Honestly I think people think of anything to get a reaction on here.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/04/2010 23:16

It's dreadful.

Don't be silly.

MudandRoses · 06/04/2010 16:37

Oh my gosh! I didn't think it was that bad! I know plenty of kids with more unusual names.

controlfreakery · 06/04/2010 16:40

purlease! give the kid a break!

bodkin might be nice (bod for short).

dizzydixies · 06/04/2010 16:45

reminds me of darling bud of May with Ma and Pa Larkin in the bath together
wouldn't be a choice of mine, sorry!

LynetteScavo · 06/04/2010 16:46

Would he spend a lot of time Larkin' around?

ChickensHaveSinisterMotives · 06/04/2010 16:47

I'm not keen, sorry. It sounds quite sweet on a young child, but if your DS grows up to be a 20 stone rugby player he won't appreciate it IYSWIM.

BessieBoots · 06/04/2010 16:49

I like the sound, but it seems weird to name your child after the man that wrote the following.

This Be The Verse

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.

Phillip Larkin

BessieBoots · 06/04/2010 16:49

(I think Phillip Larkin's a genius, btw)

MudandRoses · 06/04/2010 16:49

Hmmm true Chickens. Mind you I can't really picture a kid of mine being a rugby player. Prime Minister, maybe...

reminds me of a grown man i met once in a professional context. he introduced himself to the meeting... we ALL looked at the floor and smirked / snorted.

he was called Dingle.

MudandRoses · 06/04/2010 16:52

Lololol. Come on now, Larkin is NOT as bad as Dingle. Surely??

Agree with other posters comments. However, if you like the sound of the name then you might like Lorcan - an irish boys name which I think is lovely

ElenorRigby · 06/04/2010 17:36

Your parents fuck you up the do....
Oops someone beat me too it!

MissJacksonIfYourNasty · 06/04/2010 19:04

Oh God, don't. It's dreadful (as a first name).

differentID · 06/04/2010 19:09

NO!!!

Was my maiden name and I tell you what, being confronted with "stop Larkin about" every day, even when I wasn't doing anything got more than a little wearing and that was only my surname.

Also, the Darling Buds of May was very popular at the time and many adults will still remember the programme.

mathanxiety · 06/04/2010 21:06

Lorcan is much nicer and sounds far more masculine than Larkin as a first name for a boy. I know a girl named Larkin.

ellesabe · 06/04/2010 21:06

Remind me of Philip Larkin - a perverted poet from Warwick!
I don't have anything against Warwick but his poems are a bit twisted!

weaselm4 · 06/04/2010 21:09

Makes me think of Philip Larkin too. Ooh, mathanxiety I like Lorcan!

ilovepiccolina · 06/04/2010 21:11

Are you Larkin' about?

Oh, has that already been said?

See, that's what the poor child would have t put up with.

It's horrible.
