Just had DS3 and he didn't look like the names we had lined up so we've been rethinking. He is now 5 days old and we have to get it sorted. We are now trying to choose between Fergus or Brodie (we want Scots).

Opinions please....

Fergus. Obviously. That's a great name.

Brodie... I don't know. It sounds like Bogey.

I really like Donald (Donny) if you are looking for Scottish names. Also Hamish, Bruce, Douglas, Duncan all sound good to my ear, but no idea if they sound over-used or under-used to a Scot in Scotland.

Brodie Brodie Brodie! Its a fab name love it big congrats btw!

thatsnotmymonkey · 04/04/2010 17:15

I have a Fergus and I love love that name. He gets called Fergy by his dad, Little Gus sometimes by me and Ferg/Fergus most of the time by others.

I like Brodie too, but that already sounds like a nn IYSWIM

Congratulations!

Fergus gets my vote - works well throughout life.

Brodie is an annoying American bloke all over MTV at the moment. Also makes me think of Miss Jean Brodie. sorry.

i like brodie

but my favourite scottish name is finlay

(though that might be a bit too popular now )

thatsnotmymonkey · 04/04/2010 17:57

Finlay has become too popular I think, it was our fave name too, but went for Fergus in the end.

IndiMamaJones · 04/04/2010 17:58

I like both. COngrats!

waitingforbedtime · 04/04/2010 18:10

Congrats.

Brodie is lovely but getting very very very popular in the area of scotland we are in. Also it is the 2nd time in 3 days its been on here. Depends if that is a worry to you.

Fergus is lovely too and much less common but given we have it as a possible and stupidly told people (pre preg) I know it doesnt always get the best response.

Not much help!

waitingforbedtime · 04/04/2010 18:11

PS Hamish is lovely or Lachlan or Aaron or Ruaridh if you wanted ideas?

ChippingIn · 05/04/2010 01:50

I like Brodie.

Bleatblurt · 05/04/2010 02:19

Brodie. Lovely name.
I don't know any in my part of Scotland.

skihorse · 05/04/2010 06:27

Of those two? Fergus - it's really lovely.

My own suggestion - Angus.

Lovethesea · 05/04/2010 10:23

Fergus I prefer to Brodie - but my recommendation is Murdo :-)
