Any thoughts on this? My husband wants to know (as do I)...

OP posts:

Alana imo is a rather wet name. It's also very popular atm. I know 4 baby Alana/Alannas.

Nicole is very dated and a bit naff.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 04/04/2010 13:06

Sorry agree with Bunny
Bit naf, sounds like a character from Dynasty or similar.
Think American daytime soaps like 'the young and the restless'
80's glamour and big hair/shoulder pads

4andnotout · 04/04/2010 13:10

I like Alana, I don't know any in rl,
I have an Elana so I'm probably biased

CurlyCasper · 04/04/2010 15:08

Don't agree with the Dynasty/American comment - unless it was a hyphenated name, but from the way you have typed it I'm guessing you mean as first and middle names?

Anyway, Alana is actually Scottish and Nicole French AFAIK.

Don't know any Alanas in RL, which is always a bonus IMO

ImSoNotTelling · 04/04/2010 15:16

I misread it as anna nicole and then of course thought smith.

I know a teen girl called alana, I think it's pretty

dizzydixies · 04/04/2010 16:02

I really don't like Alanna/Alanah/Alana etc but then I was never fond of the name Alan either

Nicole nice though

It makes me think of Anna Nicole Smith, I'm afraid.

TrillianAstra · 04/04/2010 16:30

I like Alana, and Anna Nicole Smith will be forgotten soon enough.

The two names do feel very different, but who ever goes around using their middle name anyway?

diddl · 04/04/2010 16:55

I like Alana, but not with Nicole.

Magaly · 04/04/2010 16:58

Alana is a bit blank in my opinon. And the whole thing is very similar to Anna Nicole.

I'd just Anna Juliet or something completely different. OR change the first bit, eg, Elena Nicole. Elena is nicer than Alana jmo of course.

foxyD · 04/04/2010 20:20

I think Alana and Nicole both a bit naff. They strike me as names that were quite popular about 15 years ago and haven't really been heard of since.

CurlyCasper · 04/04/2010 21:12

oh, good point about anna nicole smith. Although it didn't strike me at first, so you might be ok, OP.

why do so many people think names that haven't been around for a while are naff? Surely it's better to bring one back than get stuck with top 10 names that have four in every classroom? The fact that a name isn't in fashion would not put me off!

allydennis · 05/04/2010 00:18

Anna Nicole... (Smith)... Google her...

Magaly · 05/04/2010 08:51

Curlycasper, it doesn't put me off. I like names like Jillian, Melanie, Lindsay just to name a few... If people are looking for an unusual name they would be smart to have a few dated names on their list.

CurlyCasper · 05/04/2010 11:30

Exactly - well said Magaly

starshaker · 05/04/2010 11:37

I love the name alana (dd's name). I also dont know any other alanas. BTW dd's middle name is jean (after my gran) i think nicole goes quite well but my first thought was also anna nicole smith

Bathbaby · 05/04/2010 23:14

I like both Alana and Nicole, and think they go well together - go for it!

Fimbow · 05/04/2010 23:15

Lana is pretty

j0807bump · 05/04/2010 23:17

thought of anna nicole smith too though will anyone remember her in a couple of years?

alana is pretty though as is nicole but not together

starshaker · 05/04/2010 23:18

Also nn's that you may encounter

lana
lany (what i call dd)
lan (me again lol)
alana banana
lanalooloo
lala

These are just my experience and im sure there are more but i dont really mind any of them

sophieandbelly · 06/04/2010 08:04

i also thought anna nicloe smith as soon as i saw it!!

Bucharest · 06/04/2010 08:08

I immediately thought the same as MoreCrackThanHarlem, it's a big hair name.

They do match though.

jenduff · 06/04/2010 08:53

Like both names but separately as like a few other posters it reminds me of Anna Nicole Smith

BigBadMummy · 06/04/2010 08:57

I have an Elena Nicole so I love it
