I prefer Lorelei spelt with a second e and think it would go better with Sofia/Sophia rather than Sofie but it's pretty. Other than that I like Laurel, Isla, Beatrice, Clara (only if pn Clare+a like they do in Yorkshire), Felicity and Penelope.

LadyCressida · 01/04/2010 14:32

You have lots of really pretty names here!
My faves are:

Lorelai (Lori) Sofie - how do you pronounce lorelai?
Lydia Claire
Harriet (Hattie) May -
Kathleen (Kitty/Kate) Rose
Sofie Matilda
April Elizabeth
Beatrice (Bee) Matilda
Alice Elizabeth
Daisy Elizabeth
Mairéade Sofie - how do you pronounce this? it looks cool!
Felicity Erin
Penelope Claire

JosephineClaire · 01/04/2010 14:35

Thank you Have ages to choose, but the list grows every day

Husband likes looking over my shoulder to read the name comments after work so he wanted to see what reactions our initial ideas got

Lorelai (also spelt Lorelei) is pronounced 'Laurel-eye' I think it's German?

Mairéade is Irish and is pronounced 'Ma-raid'

Lucie Erin
Sofie Matilda
Isla Sofie
Alexa Lucie
Clara Sofie
Elena (Lena) Sofie
Daisy Elizabeth
Mairéade Sofie
Mary Beatrice

I like the above, faves are Lucie and Alexa.

twosofar · 01/04/2010 15:01

Harriet (Hattie) May
Beatrice (Bee) Matilda
Clara Sofie
Ivy Elizabeth
Daisy Elizabeth
Poppy Kate
Orla Elizabeth
Flora Sofie
Mary Beatrice

I like these but my faves are
Mary Beatrice
Flora and Clara - but personally I prefer Sophie spelt with a ph

Mary Beatrice is lovely though!

PS Lorelei reminds me of the Marilyn Monroe character in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - not sure I like that [sceptical]

twosofar · 01/04/2010 15:02

Ha! that should have been , I wasn't concentrating!

JosephineClaire · 01/04/2010 15:12

Hehe, I haven't progressed past the smiley face (!)

I haven't seen the movie - is Lorelei not a nice character? x

OP posts:
twosofar · 01/04/2010 17:06

It's a cracking film. All of MM's character's are great because she's just fab, but they tend to all be breathy, dizzy bints who flirt with men for money/diamonds.

Nothing wrong with that so maybe it's just the name i'm not keen on..

I still say Mary Beatrice. Mary is very underused and pretty xx

This is all great feedback, thanks everyone! x

Good lord - the list is too long to comment on

I hate Sofie and Lucie (Sophie and Lucy are fine though )
You can't use Gussie as a nickname - it looks like Gusset!
Don't like Mallory, April, Erina (although Irina seems OK to my eyes odd) or Cosima

Hulababy · 01/04/2010 23:26

Hae only taken first names into account really, so these are the furst names I like most from your list. BTW I adore the name Matilda too.

Sofie Matilda
Alice Elizabeth
Daisy Elizabeth
Poppy Kate

qwerty123 · 01/04/2010 23:33

Love Cosima, Beatrice and Violet.

JosephineClaire · 06/04/2010 20:50

Ah, well I had a friend at University called Augusta and we called her Gussie/Goose and thought it was quite a pretty name

It's DH's favourite, but I'm leaning towards Kitty/Lucie/Flora...

I need to stop adding to the list really - how do people choose?!

OP posts:
mintyfresh · 06/04/2010 21:01

Clara
Alexa
Harriet
Flora
...are my faves from your list - the first three I considered for my dd!

I quite like Mallory but loved Mallory Towers so am biased!!

JosephineClaire · 06/04/2010 21:03

I love Mallory but it means unlucky and ill-omened

OP posts:
Skegness · 06/04/2010 21:05

I like Mary, Felicity and Lydia.

BillieJackson · 06/04/2010 21:07

I'll comment on your first names ( middle names are a bit 'emh' to me, so no real opinions):

Love Aoife, Lydia, Mary

Like Harriet, Laurel, Beatrice, Clara, Felicity, Daisy and Penelope.

mathanxiety · 06/04/2010 21:19

Cosima, Kathleen, Laurel, Aoife, Alice, Elena (Lena) and Beatrice are my favourites.

(ps 'Mairead' -- no end E)

Doozie · 06/04/2010 21:46

Really dislike the Sofie spelling so if you replace Sofie with Sophie here's my two cents worth...

Lorelai (Lori) Sofie - Nope, you watch too much Gilmore Girls.
Adrianna Claire - ok
Cosima Sofie- Yes, Cosima is great.
Erina Kate - Nope
Aoife Rose - Nope
Lydia Claire - Nope
Harriet (Hattie) May - Nope
Kathleen (Kitty/Kate) Rose - Yes
Violet Sofie - yes
Lucie Erin - Nope
Laurel Sofie - Nope
Sofie Matilda - Yes
April Elizabeth - Nope
Augusta (Gussie) Elizabeth - prefer Augustine as I know a gorgeous one. Gussie is horrid, too close to gusset.
Isla Sofie - yes
Beatrice (Bee) Matilda - Yes, nn spelt Bea but it is pronounced bee.
Fenella (Ella) Sofie - Yes, but can't she just be Fenella and not yet another Ella/Ellie?
Alice Elizabeth - Yes
Alexa Lucie - Nope
Clara Sofie - yes
Elena (Lena) Sofie - Nope
Mallory Rose - Nope
Nuala Sofie - Nope
Ivy Elizabeth - Nope
Daisy Elizabeth - Nope
Poppy Kate - Nope
Mairéade Sofie - Nope
Orla Elizabeth - Nope
Felicity Erin - Nope
Flora Sofie - Yes
Mary Beatrice - Yes
Penelope Claire - ok

Rose & May, although pretty enough, seem like a the default for a middle name just for the sake of having a middle name. Yawn.

brightyoungthing · 07/04/2010 16:52

I've never heard of a Kathleen being shortened to Kitty, but have met many Dorothy's who call themselves Kitty! It's such a sweet name

JosephineClaire · 07/04/2010 17:21

Kathleen/Kitty is my Nanna's name

It's sweet on a little girl/old lady - not so sure about 40 yr old...I suppose that's when it can become Kate...

OP posts:
Psammead · 08/04/2010 11:09

Cosima Sofie
Harriet (Hattie) May
Sofie Matilda
April Elizabeth
Augusta (Gussie) Elizabeth
Beatrice (Bee) Matilda
Fenella (Ella) Sofie
Alice Elizabeth
Mallory Rose
Felicity Erin
Penelope Claire

Those are the ones I quite like, although not sure about mn Elizabeth. Have bolded my favourites. LOVE Mallory.
