I like it! It's pretty and unusual, but I think it's a cheeky/bit naughty name too-my sister was meant to be called roxanne but they thought she was too sweet so named her jessica instead-they were very wrong lol!

SirBoobAlot · 29/03/2010 23:32

hums Roxanne

I love it - my friends little sister is called Roxanne, Roxy for short, and I was a bit before she was born, but now she's a beautiful little 4 year old, and it totally suits her.

LetThereBeRock · 30/03/2010 00:48

You don't have to put on the red light.

I don't like it at all.

AllieW · 30/03/2010 10:41

Not keen on it aesthetically and there is also the EastEnders connection to consider.

GetOrfMoiLand · 30/03/2010 10:43

Roxanne - prostitute

Roxy - 80s disco

Has no nice associations imho.

How could you call a little baby Roxanne?

ROXXXXXXXXXXXXAAAAAHN!

I can't think it without screeching it out like Sting.

mathanxiety · 30/03/2010 20:53

The super nurse who was there with the student doctor (just the two of them and me in the wee small hours of the morning) for the birth of DD3 was called Roxanne, and I have loved the name ever since. Love Maxine too.

Magaly · 30/03/2010 22:23

I think of sting screaming you don't have to put on the red light tonight as well.

I like Roxy though. (surfer clothing doesn't put me off)

MinnieMalone · 30/03/2010 22:24

I prefer Roxana

Great name . But people always sing the song to me, but most these people do not know the song is about a prostitute .

catfink99 · 31/03/2010 09:09

i know two different dogs caalled roxanne / roxy... so no.

notsochickchickchicken · 31/03/2010 09:24

There's a little Roxanne at work and whenever I am calling for her to come and do something I am saying her name in my head just like you LadyOfTheFlowers. roxanne08 I think the red light line in the song is a bit of a give away.

BlueChampagne · 31/03/2010 14:14

Mixed feelings about Roxanne; prefer Roxana/Roxanna or Rosanne.

doubleexpresso · 31/03/2010 14:38

Really, really don't like it. Sorry.

LetThereBeRock · 31/03/2010 14:39

As is 'You don't have to sell your body to the night'.

gemcgem · 31/03/2010 14:48

yep strippers! should have know this was you little donkin !! lol!

what about briann ??

HumphreyCobbler · 31/03/2010 14:50

Alexander the Great's wife was called Roxanne.

It means little star in persian iirc.

It was popular in the nineteenth century. I really like it, but it has negative associations for lots of people, as you see.

pinkmagic1 · 31/03/2010 14:57

My mum really loves it and wanted to name one of my younger sisters it. My dad put his foot down however, as it was around the time the Sting song came out and he didn't like its association with prostitutes!
Personally, I think its a lovely name and like someone else said, its an old Persian name. Infact it goes very well with my DD's name, also Persian. If I ever have another girl???
