Jenna

DH has finally suggested a girls name! He wants to call her Jennifer after his mum. I like the name, but thought it might be a bit confusing, also I have a friend called Jenny who we see all the time.

So we're considering a compromise with Jenna - what do you think? Only problem I can see is she will constantly be correcting people who think she's called Gemma!

Very lovely

MamaLazarou · 29/03/2010 09:05

Instantly makes me think of famous porn star Jenna Jameson, sorry. But then my ex-fiancé worked in the porn industry, so perhaps not everyone would make the connection!

belgo · 29/03/2010 09:11

It's fine.

geekgirl · 29/03/2010 09:15

Jenna Jameson was my first thought too (I hasten to add that I have no links to or interests in the porn industry)

littledawley · 29/03/2010 09:16

Jenna is lovely but I think that Jennifer is even lovelier! Could you name her Jennifer then shorten it to Jenna to avoid confusion?

bellissima · 29/03/2010 10:29

Okay, okay I'm really old - wasn't there a Jenna in Dallas? Agree with littledawley that Jennifer is lovely.

dizzydixies · 29/03/2010 10:30

nice and not too common, I only know one

your surname isn't Taylor though is it

ozmetric · 29/03/2010 10:45

Prefer Jennifer.

5DollarShake · 29/03/2010 10:49

I think it's a bit of a nothing name, if I'm honest. Very American (not that American and 'nothing' names are synonymous!).

I would go with calling her Jennifer, but using Jenna as a nn.

SqueezyB · 29/03/2010 10:50

ok, I've never heard of Jenna Jameson or Taylor! Fingers crossed noone will think we named our daughter after a porn star...

Aha, just googled it and got the Jenna Taylor thing, god I am slow this morning! Nope, our surname begins with a B, and as far as I can tell no innuendos to be had!

The more I think of it the more I like Jenna more than Jennifer acually - makes me think of a cheeky little girl with a bit of get-up-and-go, whereas Jennifer is more pretty.

Not sure on middle names yet, how about..

Jenna Isabel
Jenna Violet
Jenna Imogen

5DollarShake, I think it is a Cornish name, not American. DH is from Cornwall.

Jenna is lovely

As is Jenny/Jennie. I knew a Jenny at school who was just Jenny ie wasnt a shorted from Jennifer,

Never heard of the pornstar person..

5DollarShake · 29/03/2010 11:05

SqueezyB - ah, OK - I guess I have just heard a lot of Americans with the name, as opposed to English/Cornish people.

5DollarShake · 29/03/2010 11:07

In fact, if it is Cornish and your DH is Cornish, then all the more reason to go with Jenna (as opposed to Jennifer). So I retract my original view!

I know 3 Jennifers under the age of 10, one of whom is one of dd2's best friends.

I think its lovely. I like longer girls names you can shorten like that - my dd1 is a Katherine and is now known as Kathy (her own choice). You can choose Jennifer and call her Jenna but i gives her the choice later of other nicknames if she likes one better.

belgo · 29/03/2010 11:36

I know loads of Jennifers, it's one of the most consistently popular names.

I prefer Jenna.

Cortina · 29/03/2010 13:44

Sorry aspirational 'Dallas' IMO.

CinderellaRach · 29/03/2010 13:58

It's a top strippers name and everyone will think of the pornstar Jenna Jameson!!
Although a very nice name.
Dizziedixies at Jenna Taylor!!!

mathanxiety · 29/03/2010 18:30

I think of the Bush girls, Jenna and Barbara. So a no vote here.

I much prefer Guinevere, Geneva or Ginevra as alternatives to Jennifer. Since your DH is Cornish, how about Guinevere?

AllieW · 29/03/2010 18:32

Not keen, sorry. Another compromise might be Genevieve?

Lora69 · 29/03/2010 18:32

Nah, porn star here too. Go for Jennifer. lovely x

MummyDoIt · 29/03/2010 18:32

Makes me think of the character from Blake's 7 but then I'm a) showing my age and b) showing my fondness for bad, low budget 1970s sci-fi! Pretty name, though!

Daisy00 · 29/03/2010 18:39

I prefer Jemma or Gemma. I know that's not after his mother but Jenna makes me think of Jenna Wade from Dallas. Not dreadful. BUt very American (also not a bad thing) but I just prefer Jemma.

MarianneD · 30/03/2010 09:06

Tacky IMVHO. Think Jennifer much classier.
