Has sacha Baron-cohen he of Ali G and now Bruno , ruined my favorite name?
Opinions please...due very soon with ds1 and having a nightmare. I love the name but dont want him to be bullied into thinking he's a gay austrian fashionista...although if thats how he turned out later in life i really wouldn't complain. Oh decisions

Absolutely NOT! I LOVE it - v v cool name

bearcrumble · 23/03/2010 16:37

It was on my list but I didn't use it in the end. I don't think people will remember the film in a few year's time. It's a nice name and the film hasn't had a huge cultural impact - so I say go for it.

ellesabe · 23/03/2010 16:39

I like it

mathanxiety · 23/03/2010 19:53

The film sank like a hammer, iirc. I say go for it too.

malovitt · 23/03/2010 19:55

I know two lovely Brunos and would never associate them with the film.

Clary · 23/03/2010 19:55

That's Nigella's son's name isn't it? Good pedigree if so

juneybean · 23/03/2010 19:56

Its my dogs name :/

pointydog · 23/03/2010 20:00

The curly haired bloke from fame didn't help matters. It's a cartoon name I think

LynetteScavo · 23/03/2010 20:06

I love the name Bruno

I think of this;

yeah yeah, the curly haired bloke from fame

5DollarShake · 23/03/2010 20:14

I do not like it personally, but SBC's Bruno will be long gone by the time your son gets to an age to be teased by such things, so go for it if you like it!

aloevera · 23/03/2010 20:15

Love it. The only Bruno I knew was a wild black-haired portuguese toddler running round the Algarve in the '80s. He was adorable.

I know one, he's two and lovely. What names would you choose with it, his mum is due in a fortnight and is struggling to find something to go with it.

It does sound a lot like a boxer...

jessia · 24/03/2010 08:00

Bruno is our only choice for a boy (but so far we have two girls so we joke that he obviously doesn't like it ). He will be (if he ever comes along) Bruno Oliver but that's just because of a family connection.

Go for it!

GladioliBuckets · 24/03/2010 16:45

Oh God I watched that this weekend and I'm sorry but yes, it has ruined the name for me. Have you actually seen the movie? He's not just a gay Austrian fashionista, he's a complete tw*t! (V funny though)

GladioliBuckets · 24/03/2010 16:50

The film may not have been a box office hit but is a fine satirical illustration of our times, it will be a cult movie forever among spotty young men. Please please watch it anyone considering the name.

LetThereBeRock · 24/03/2010 16:53

Dog's name.

CuppaTeaJanice · 24/03/2010 17:15

I have only ever met one Bruno. I have a lot of respect for him because following numerous rumours circulating our school, one day he stood on a chair in the middle of the sixth form common room and announced that he was gay. Which imo was a very brave thing to do at a comprehensive school in the early 1990s.

With that judge from strictly(?) and SBCs character, it does make me wonder if a disproportionate number of Brunos are gay, though.
