dc#3 due in the Summer, and am struggling for names, particularly boys names. Dh and I like traditional names, but not very very popular ones if you know what I mean. We already have Edward and Elizabeth but don't want James (middle name) and not sure whether it sounds ott to have another regal name, or whether a non-regal name would jar. So far like

Adam
Robert
Catherine
Sarah

Too plain? boring? Not sure!!

Boys names are so hard, aren't they? We were having boys' names conversations pretty much daily and struggling to find anything we both loved, and have just found out that we are having a girl, so have been able to abandon that search! For now, anyway.

Adam and Robert are both strong names.

Boys names that either of us liked (some more popular than others):

Jacob/Jake
Samuel
Benjamin
Andrew
Harry/Henry
Edward (which is obviously out for you!)
Ronan
Jude

Obviously some of those are going to go better than others with your existing names.

Other possibilities along regal lines:

William
Charles
George

Sarah would be really weird for a boy, surely?

Have an Oliver... you'd be keeping away from the regal theme then.

i love cecilia as a name

What about Anya or Clara for a girl? Both simple but classic.
Saul or Dominic for a boy. (I really like Robert though. Underused right now.)

It's so refreshing seeing a thread about normal sensible names! Sarah and Robert would be my choices.

RubiMama · 23/03/2010 17:22

I think Adam is a great name, and very underused atm

yellowcircle · 23/03/2010 17:31

You could also consider:

happynappies · 24/03/2010 16:00

Ooh thanks for all these ideas, I'm just leafing through them all now... Pasiphae I like the E trend... I loved getting labels printed for clothes/shoes etc with just E and surname, could use them for three children! Glad to hear people don't think my choices too boring, was a bit worried about that! Thanks everyone for inspiration so far...

I think the names you've chosen are lovely, definitely not boring. It is really nice to see names which aren't faddy so they won't date and they won't be in a class with loads with the same name. You're never going to regret choosing any of those names.

Also would good on a CV in years to come!
