What do you think of Moses? This is coming back onto my list. It would have been dd2's name but she was a dd, and with ds we used Eli and Amos.
We are liking Shem and Lev, but seriously thinking about putting this back on my list.
Trouble is is it a bit Gwynneth Paltrow now? Dd ws born before her ds, so it was not something we needed to worry about then, but now I am not so sure, are there loads of them about or is it unusable now?
Would love some opinions!

I did instantly think of Gwynnie (and her marvellous blog.)

Are you going for a very Old Testament feel?

tummytickler · 21/03/2010 10:59

oh no - really Dh will only consider OT names, and nothing that ends in 'iah'!, which means no Obadiah, Jeremiah etc. ALso no Jethro! It is getting tricky to extend our list beyond Shem, Lev and Hershel! I would like a couple more options!

Reuben?

justallovertheplace · 21/03/2010 11:27

supposes his toeses are roses

pixiestix · 21/03/2010 11:32

I quite like Moses, although I did think of Gwynneth straight away!
Shem and Lev are great though, and more unusual - I would pick one of those over Moses, but would pick Moses over Hershel (makes me think of Hershey's kisses).

HTH!

Ghee - Reuben is my maternal grandfathers name, he died a long time ago and granny has since got remarried. It would go down very badly if i were to use Reuben, although I briefly considered it 8 years ago when i was pg with ds1.
I think if everyone thinks Paltrow I might have to give Moses a miss, it would really bother me, which is stupid, but I can't help it!

I toyed with Micah for DS2 but it was too similar to my brother's DD... Joel and Ezra are also cute and wouldn't be too much of a burden. Of course, you could always take it out there with Shebbuel or Uzziel...

GheeDeMaupassant · 21/03/2010 11:49

Ooh, I like Micah!

Moses sur name is Martin. It's the two together that kill me.

Moses Martin. It sounds so silly. Martin is so dull.

Not too keen on Moses but I love Lev. Also like Ezra, Caleb and Yehuda.

mathanxiety · 21/03/2010 17:35

Love it. Moses was used quite frequently in certain parts of Ireland for at least the last 200 years.

Also suggest Zaccheus, Zachary, Isaac, Josaphat, Lemuel, Samuel
Then there's
Aaron
Abraham
Adam
Amos
Asa
Benjamin
Caleb
Daniel
David
Eli
Ephraim
Gideon
Hira m
Ira
Jacob
Jesse
Jonah
Mordecai
Nathan
Nathaniel
Saul
Seth
Solomon

I LOVE IT

MumNWLondon · 21/03/2010 18:06

Asher?
Noah?
Gad?

I am not so keen on Moses - like Lev (we are thinking of Zev for our DS). But Moses is definately useable.

Loads of lovely old testament boys names.

Our DD is Noa - from Numbers chapter 27 (not the Noah and flood)

blogpage · 21/03/2010 22:04

It's OK.

Firawla · 22/03/2010 20:00

moses is lovely
i didnt even kno gwyneth paltrow had a moses, (i thought she had an apple? or mayb she has both) so not everyone will think you have copied, im sure not everyone is aware

AllieW · 25/03/2010 20:35

I really like it. I don't think I'd registered about the Paltrow thing but I'm not really bothered about such things. I think it's very strong. A friend named her son Mordecai (nn Kai and occasionally Mordy) if you wanted to consider that?

(She has an Apple too, Firawla. That "name" has since made it into at least one name book on that basis.)
