Why is it so difficult to pick a boys name!

I can't go for anything too way out as this baby will be brought up in Glasgow as well as probably preferring make up to football, as will have 3 big sisters.

Therefore be gentle on my choice of names. Thanks.

Archie
Austin
James
Ben
John or Johny

Not sure if Austin is just a bit unique for us. Also reminds me of Austin Powers.

Opinions welcome.

I know and Austin from Glasgow got called Ozzy though.

Hugh/Hughie is nice too

Elliot was always our "boys" name but DP has gone off it, says it's too poncey for round here

sweetkitty- Elliot reminds me of Billy Elliot. Though I do think it is a lovely name but I know there is no way my partner would have it either.

Oh and if Ds's friends shortened it to Elli, not sure how good that would be when lots of girls are now called Elli.

Oh I could go on and on. Oh well, I have 12 weeks for inspiration to hit me.

Austin, James and John. Jonas is a Lithuanian variant of John. Jonah has a similar-ish sound but not the same name.

Elliott might be a bit girly for Glasgow.

Sorry I if I put you out with the p word. It is just that to me, and maybe only to me, Archie has that kind of feel of try hard old man "chic". There used to be a big issue cartoon about 2 media type parents and their kids called "Orlando and Archie and their Terribly Smug Parents". Maybe I have an irrational prejudice from there so don't mind me.

It is hard naming a baby before it's born isn't it! When we meet an adult Hugh we always engage in mutual appreciation of the name so maybe they all are on comission...

Fwiw my Hugh is also known as Shuggy Buggy Bee, Shuggy Buggles or just The Bug so beware comedy nicknames suited to babies.

I am hopeful that he'll choose to use Hugh as an adult though.

I know a baby Jonny (Jonathan) and a baby Austin. I love Austin. Jonny is ok but i don't like John, even though it is dh's name.

My ds1 middle name is James so love that too.

Like Archie and Ben

My ds' are Lewis and Noah.

Archie - too now, will date
Austin - really horrible, sorry. Also, it reminds me of Austin Healy which is not nice.
James - good name but no-one will think, "wow, nice"
Ben - good name
John or Johny - really like. Would spell it Johnny though
