I love that name as it is so similar to the name I love Isla. I hadn't seen it spelt with a y but I much prefer it. Definately timeless it's so pretty.

Lila will date and Lyla just looks like you can't spell.

Go with Laila/Leila if you want "timeless".

Lila = Lee-la
Layla/Laila = Lay-la
Leila = Lee-la (like Sheila)

In German Lila is the name of a colour (violet) and is pronounced Lee-la.

I much prefer the Lila spelling, I think it is quite trendy but it's an established name so can't date that badly. Maybe simialr to a name like Freya.

I actually like the name pronounced Lee-la best. Like the Sanskrit name but not sure about the spelling Leela.

I live in France, by the way, and the only Lila I have seen is a little English girl. Pronounced Ly-la.

I don't know which nationality the OP is or where her dd may grow up (wasn't made clear in her post).

But I thought she might find it helpful how other people (including those of different nationalites) might pronounce her suggested names. However, if that is not helpful, I apologise .

I'm just irritated by this tendency on baby names threads to validate bizarre words or strange pronunciations by "But it's used in Swahili language" or "But it's pronounced xyz in Kyrgyzstan". Googling our way to nonsense.

I am French myself and I do know a few French Lila in France....

I said it is irrelevant how the French 'Lila' is pronounced, as OP isn't French and she doesn't live in France. And in any case, she clearly intends to pronounce it as Lyla not Leela, given the thread title.

Layla/Leila is a popular arabic name, which I think means night. Different name, IMO.
By the way, I've never come across an Arabic person with that name who spells it Lila or Lyla.

TBH when I read op I thought Lee-la like the girl in Futurama.
Quite like it though, although seems to be some confusion about how you would pronounce it, if that makes a difference to your opinion if you have to keep correcting people?

Layla is not pronounced the same way as Lila, which is probably why the Muslim name Layla/Leila/Leyla is not written as Lila.
