Chayia?

We don't know the gender of our twins yet, but are having complications with the pregnancy that does mean one or both of them may not survive.

I recently heard of the name 'Chayia' for a girl and that it's hebrew meaning is 'life' and I quite like it for that reason. However, I am not really sure how it would be pronounced or if I like the actual name enough or the meaning is influencing me.

Do you like it? And how would you pronounce it?

Thankyou.

Sorry to hear of your pregnancy complications. I hope it all turns out well for you.

Chayia is a pretty looking name. I think I would pronounce it Chay-EE-ah. Or maybe CHY-ah.

Names that mean 'life'

sorry to hear about your problems, hope everything goes ok with them both

I might like it,if I knew how to pronounce it!

Good luck midori1999.

GladioliBuckets · 13/03/2010 11:44

Oh gosh Midori, wish you all the luck in the world, what a tough time for you guys.

Chaiya would be pronounced K-eye-a but officially the initial sound would be like the ch in Loch Ness. I don't like it personally because I don't like Kaya which it sounds like.

Other ideas:
Vita (life)
Cara, Aimee, Esme (beloved)
Elisabeth, Davina (gift from God)
Serena (peace)
Philomena (love and strength)
William (guardian)
Perdita (lost one)

I speak Hebrew
It's pronounced "Cha-Ya" (emphasis on the "Cha")

I think it's a nice name.
Zoe means "life" too, BTW.

lowrib · 13/03/2010 12:10

I think it's a lovely name.

foreverastudent · 13/03/2010 12:19

If I saw it I would pronounce it Shy-a, which I like the sound of but maybe not a good idea to use if there is confusion over spelling/pronounciation.

Lulumaam · 13/03/2010 12:21

I have only ever seen it spelt 'Chaya'

it is a lovely name

i wish you well for the res of your pregnancy and for both your babes x

Scrudd · 13/03/2010 12:50

Ohhh no, I don't like it at all. It looks like it's missing a 'l' an 'm' and a 'd'

Sorry.

mathanxiety · 13/03/2010 21:25

So sorry for what you're facing. xxxxx

I love Chaya -- it's in the top 20 names for 2008 for girls in NYC. Beautiful name and meaning.

It's nowhere near chlamydia, Scrudd . Took me quite a while to figure out what you were on about.

MmeLindt · 13/03/2010 21:36

Sorry about what you are going through.

Beatrice is a lovely name and means voyager (through life) and blessed.

Good luck

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/03/2010 21:38

Best of luck Midori. I hope all works out well.

I do like the name, I love names chosen for meaning (my dd is Sophia = wisdom) and this meaning is evidently so important to you.

It may well be a pita to spell out/explain pronunciation, however you could have that with the most bog standard names. I thought the name Sophia was pretty well known, however people get confused with it and call her Sophie (incluing MIL, and my dd is 14).

Fingers crossed for you and your babies.

BlueBumedFly · 13/03/2010 21:42

Oh my goodness, I hope you come to a happy ending. My choice would be Phedra (fay-dra) meaning 'ray of light' xx
