So excited to finally be able to post this! Just had my 12 week scan so feeling much happier after some early bleeding. This is my current list (note my list - DH doesn't necessarily agree with me on these).

I'm looking for opinions and inspiration based on the things I like. I can't take your ribbing, I've already had DD's name described as sanitary-wear on here

Boys:

Raphael
Emmanual
Reuben
Otis (actually this is DH's choice)
Soren
Theodore
Jonah

Isadadora
Clementine
Seraphina (I don't think I would ever actually use this one, but I like it)
Beatrice
Ondine
Betty/Bettina

I like all of these but none of them jump out at me yet, so I need your validation or new ideas.

Hit me with it

I love Raphael and Clementine

(assume Isadadora is a typo?!)

Bumperlicious · 12/03/2010 08:19

Oh yes Isadora

none are really my kind of names but if I had to choose I'd go for Raphael or Theo (without the dore) for a boy. Quite like Otis too.

Girls would be Beatrice or Betty.

Congratulations btw

largeginandtonic · 12/03/2010 08:20

Jonah!!! Excellent name Bump Call him that.

Raphael is also fab. I like Otis, my dh did not.

Girls not Seraphina but Seraphim. Also an excellent name

Ooooh baby names are such fun.

Congrats on the scan too It is lovely to feel reassured after a tricky start.

Alouiseg · 12/03/2010 08:21

Love Clementine and Otis, makes me want to have more babies.

largeginandtonic · 12/03/2010 08:21

Oh and Betty is lovely (Elizabeth) but i prefer Beatrix.

MrsJohnDeere · 12/03/2010 08:25

Like Otis and Soren (although doesn't it mean severe, not sure about that). Other boys names not my cup of tea.

Like all the girls names. Clementine or Beatrice would be my favourites.

Bucharest · 12/03/2010 08:29

Raphael- too Old Testament for me
Emmanual- Still too porn movie of the 70s
Reuben- like this, lots
Otis (actually this is DH's choice)lifts
Soren Thought this was a girl?
Theodore- would have been OK till the great unwashed started with the Theo craze.
Jonah- OK, bit depressing I always think.

Isadadora- s'OK, doesn't light my fire though
Clementine- fabulous. Love it
Seraphina (I don't think I would ever actually use this one, but I like it) too frilly, what if you produce a wee bruiser?
Beatrice- love this too
Ondine Nope, sounds like a whirlpool manufacturer's product.
Betty/Bettina- I like Betty, but the only Bettina I ever knew was a 6ft German woman with hairy arms.

Good list though. Poncey in parts, but mainly thumbs up

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/03/2010 08:35

Shouldn't emmanual be spelled emmanuel?

I like Otis (or Reuben, but it's a bit common these days) for a boy, and Isadora or Beatrice for a girl (although again I know quite a few Beatrices).

I can't remember what your dd's name is unfortunately.

How about Cecily or Francesca for a girl?

Bumperlicious · 12/03/2010 08:51

'Shouldn't emmanual be spelled emmanuel?' probably, should really do my research, can't remember what happened to my baby name book though.

Don't want to post DD's name as it is quite unusual, but if you want to know it is the name of a girl in the Sweet Valley High series of books , also the same name as Kate Moss's daughter , but I love it anyway.

Love reading people's opinions, good and bad bizarrely. DH not keen on Theo, nor Emmanuel because of the porn connection (means nothing to me though).

Hmm, not quite sure about Cecily, though I do like Cecilia, hadn't thought about Francesca and do quite like it.

Now, is it Clementeen or Clementyne? I really like it either way, but wonder if it is a bit Tilly/Martha/Maisie/Kitty IYSWIM? We definitely live in a Tilly/Martha/Maisie/Kitty area (all lovely names but v popular atm).

Congrats on your scan!! My favourites are Theodore (but Theo) and Clementine. I think Kate Moss DD and the above really go!!!

Enjoy the rest of your PG!

congrats!

Raphael - really nice but a bit delicate could be tricky to pull off depending on the child

Emmanual - see above

Reuben - love it (although i would assume the child was Jewish)

Otis (actually this is DH's choice) . don't like at all, sorry.

Soren - cool. never heard anyone by that name.

Theodoreni - ?? what nationality? greek? if so, i would assume you were of that background

Jonah - not keen. a bit North America circa 1988

Isadadora - don't like but love isobel/isabellle.

Clementine - love it.

Seraphina (I don't think I would actually use this one, but I like it). don't like.

Beatrice - pretty

Ondine - not keen

Betty/Bettina - too trendy/of the moment

MissusRabbit · 12/03/2010 09:00

Love Isadora and Jonah

PanicMode · 12/03/2010 09:02

We have a Theodore, but it is now horribly popular - I probably wouldn't use it today, but as he's rising 6 I think we are ahead of the "great unwashed" curve! Otis reminds me of lifts and drain covers (being a surveyor!) and I'm not too keen on the others being a bit too biblical for me - although I do like Soren (I worked with a lovely Danish chap called Soren once).

Girls - Beatrice is on our list for a girl and I also love Clementine/Clemmie for a girl, although as (it sounds as though) we live in similar areas, I do know 3 under 3....

diddl · 12/03/2010 09:04

Love Otis & Jonah, Isadora & Seraphina.

Cortina · 12/03/2010 09:06

I love Isadore for a boy - Or is it Isidore. Not on your list but that would be quite an interesting choice.

I see that Ophelia is actually becoming more popular that strikes me in as being in the same name family as your other choices.

Seraphina - too Disney for me.

Bumperlicious · 12/03/2010 09:12

I like the idea of Ophelia, but it just makes me think 'Ophelia Bottom' and snigger

I do like Octavia though, although it might be a bit 'harsh'.

Any other ancient Greek/Roman names? Oh, I forgot I do like the name Hera too.

OP posts:
Cortina · 12/03/2010 09:22

I used to love Octavia and if DH had agreed would have used it by now but now I feel it's a bit OTT for most to get away with. I heard it yelled in a cafe the other day and someone it didn't sound right at all.

I know one who is known affectionately as 'Occy' which reminds me of darts.

Like Raphael and much prefer this to Rafferty which sounds made up to me (although it's apparently I am told).

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 12/03/2010 09:27

i love soren but i do like a bit of malt cake so maybe that's why? torin's nice, my pal has a wee boy of that name, like the reporter torin douglas, a good scottish name.

bibbitybobbityhat · 12/03/2010 09:31

Reuben and Betty.

Both the above were on my shortlists, so I really do like them, not just finding something nice to say.

Since your baby is due on my birthday (remember?) I think you need to take special note and listen to your Aunty Bibbity.

Cortina · 12/03/2010 09:32

Soren reminds me of Ptolemy which I'd LOVE to use for a boy. Please someone else dare to use it for me! How about you Bumperlicious?? Is it Poncey enough?

I like Reuben, Jonah, Clementine, Beatrice

MamaLazarou · 12/03/2010 11:14

I don't think those names are poncy at all: I like them. Apart from Seraphina, which is too frilly.
