Safia/Safiya/Saffia:

Swahili and Arabic name meaning "pure and wise" or "lion's share."...

FanjolinaJolie · 09/03/2010 13:29

It's lovely!

Bumbleconfusus · 09/03/2010 13:54

My MIL is Safia (North African), its nice... DH and I plan to use it if we ever have another DD.

Blu · 09/03/2010 13:56

There is a Safiya in DS's class.

Eugenie · 09/03/2010 14:05

Yep, as hellokitty says it's Arabic. My friend spells her name Safiya and is forever correcting people that it is Safiya and not Sophia. Of course people are going to confuse it as it is not a commonly heard name in the UK. But once she explains, which she proudly does, it is Arabic, spelt Safiya my father is Moroccan etc. people don't find it so difficult and always comment how beautiful it is.

mathanxiety · 09/03/2010 14:54

I think it's beautiful.

boodleboot · 09/03/2010 14:59

Pure and Wise....such a beautiful meaning too....Saff is a lovely shortening too....beautiful without being frilly....will have to see what DH thinks...
