Lulu?

Our 2 month DD is called Louisa and we have started to call her Lulu. A friend asked me today if we really are going to refer to her as Lulu (with a raised eyebrow). I think it's cute but it got me thinking if it maybe does sound a bit ridiculous? What do you think?

I have a 28yr old friend called Lindsay who everyone calls Lulu. She also refers to herself as Lulu so can't be all that bad.

At 2 months old I'm pretty sure your DD isn't going to mind being called Lulu. It's cute.

cookielove · 07/03/2010 20:23

i look after a little girl that is called elizabeth, her mum and sister call her lulu, and more often than not so do we, she is very cute, cute name cute child, perfect match

deloola · 07/03/2010 20:25

I have a 36 year old friend who has been called Lulu by everyone for as long as she and I can remember - her real name is Lucienne. Never even thought her name was ridiculous if that helps

Lulumaam · 07/03/2010 20:25

I have a Lulu

i love it. not bothered what anyone else thinks really, she started off as Lucy, but by 2 days old was called Lulu and it suits her feisty personality

BooBoosMumma · 07/03/2010 20:31

I LOVE it! My husband's 94 year old grandma is a Lulu and she loves it too!

I'm due 4 October, the same day as grandma's 95th birthday, so if we have a girl her middle name is definitely going to be Lulu, in honour of her amazing great grannie!

TheCrackFox · 07/03/2010 20:33

It is a great name.

Louisa232 · 07/03/2010 20:44

My name is Louisa and most people I know call me Lulu, I think it's good to be a bit different!

mathanxiety · 07/03/2010 20:48

One of the DDs has a friend Louise who is known as Lulu. I don't know why you got a raised eyebrow from your friend... I think it's a very common nn for Louise/Louisa.

tummytickler · 07/03/2010 20:54

I love Louisa/Lulu. My dd's nn is Lulu and her name is Pearl (from her nn Pearlulalulabelle , obviously !).
If Lulu was her given name I might be a bit , but as a nn it is really cute!

SqueezyB · 07/03/2010 21:00

I'm a Louise and my mum used to call me Loozie-woozie-stinky-poozie, so compared to that Lulu is quite mild!

I think it's a lovely nn, and Louisa is a lovely grown-up name too.

5DollarShake · 07/03/2010 21:02

Lovely nn.

Nikna · 07/03/2010 21:12

Love it

morethemerrier · 07/03/2010 22:49

Its on my list! Louisa but def Lulu for when she is little! (due in may,dc3)

Funnily enough it was DH grandmas name, she got Lulu and Lulee and Louie!

I think its sweet, and adapts well ignore her, its very pretty and as it has developed naturally must suit her!

Nicknames for babies are always developed as terms of endearment, and as Squeezyb can testify are not always as favourable!

But I am sure it brings a fuzzy warm childhood memory when her mum refers to her as Loozie-woozie-stinky-poozie!

We have a few nicknames we use for DS1 Alexander = Xander Muffin pie, xanderman, pander(rhymes with xander!?!)and DS2 William = Witwot, willibobs, and willistink!

Do you still think Lulu is ridiculous....?!?

Vivia · 08/03/2010 08:35

My friend has a Louise who is nicknamed Luli. Gorgeous and rather unique.

Vivia · 08/03/2010 08:36

I meant to point out - I prefer Luli to Lulu!

bellissima · 08/03/2010 11:17

I know a Louisa/Lulu.

What is Lulu's real name?

morethemerrier · 08/03/2010 19:38

Marie Macdonald Maclaughlan Lawrie

Don't know how that translates to Lulu????

menomena · 08/03/2010 19:40

I wouldn't put it on the birth certificate but Louisa is a lovely (and sensible) name - nothing wrong with using Lulu as a nickname! I think it's sweet

verylittlecarrot · 09/03/2010 00:36

tummytickler - did you know that Lulu is a Swahili name meaning 'Pearl'?

I know stuff

OP - super name, can only be carried off by the most special and feistiest girls.

Now please delete this thread before people notice the name and it goes the same way as Ellie / Millie / Ruby / Daisy. Keep it rare, keep it under your hat.

SusieCarmichael · 09/03/2010 00:39

well my dd's nn is noonoo! (i know, most people call their dc's dummies noonoo) so lulu sounds much less ridiculous imo

menomena · 09/03/2010 00:40

Didn't know about Swahili but Lulu means pearl in Arabic btw

tummytickler · 09/03/2010 08:54

Wow - so my Pearl has quite a fitting nn, I can pretend I am very smart and new all about its Swahili and Arabic meanings and that Lulu was intentional! can't wait to tell dh when he gets back!
