What's a nice name for a sister of a Rufus?

I do like this name, although people have told me they think it's a bit "Islington". I once knew a Jack Russell Terrier called Rufus and the name suited him so well. So for me, in a way the name will always be synonymous with Jack Russell Terriers and not a human being's name.

Sorry in advance if I've inadvertently offended anyone with a son called Rufus with my canine references.

I'd be very intersted to hear what those who do have one have called any daughters they may have subsequenty had.

I don't have a Rufus, But I like the idea of what girls name goes with it iykwim, You're probably pulling me into trouble too

I like the idea of Rufus' sister being Mimi or Aurora.

My first dog was called Rufus! He was a beautiful red-haired Cavalier King Charles spaniel...ah, happy memories

It means "red-haired" too, but I guess you know that.

I would never be able to use it because of those associations for me, but if I did, I suppose I would want something similarly posh and a bit unusual, like Clarissa.

Sorry if not much help, but thanks for the warm fuzzies

Here are all the Rufus BAs from the Telegraph. Maybe some ideas here for you?

I adore Rufus. My DH was very much of the 'dog's name brigade' though

Rufus and Imogen sound wonderful together. Rufus and Iona too.

tummytickler · 07/03/2010 17:04

I would associate it with similar English historical names:

Matilda
Maude
Adela

I do like the name.

PanicMode · 07/03/2010 20:04

I can't tell you because we're on the Telegraph list with a Rufus, and that would identify me, but my daughter's name has been mentioned on this thread

FWIW,we have had nothing but positive comments about his name - and the canine references don't bother me in the slightest. In fact we're considering Felix for number 4

Callista

I love Iona. I like Isla too but prefer it spelt Ayla. I think both go quite well with Rufus. Hermione is another one too.

The Telegraph names are great aren't they? That must have been where Catherine Tate got the inspiration for her Mrs Taylor-Thomas sketches and characters!

I'm loving "Rufus Hector Round, a brother for Wilf" and "Rufus Edward Baskerville Cadwallader" but my favourite had to be the Croisdale-Appleby's announcing the birth of thier son, "Horatio Rufus Leonidas"

Great stuff. Thanks for posting that up BananaMumma some really good ideas on there.

P.S I used to know a dear little shitzu cross called Maude once so that's another good doggy name to bear in mind.

I just love the name Rufus. It's so cute for a little boy but then could be Ru for young man.

Harriet and Rufus?

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 08/03/2010 13:02

I love the name too, and have a little Rufus. If we were going to try for number 3 and had a girl, DH wanted to call her Kitty. Then somebody pointed out that two dogs' names and a cat's name was going a bit too far!

I like Lizzy.

Boosha · 02/08/2010 21:20

I have twins Rufus and Ruby,Rufus means red-haired and Ruby's are obviously red.
People have always commented on how well they go together.
