Ted or Wilfred?

Thinking of possible middle names:

Ted Ambrose
Wilfred Thomas

But not that bothered about the middle names at this stage.

Which first name would you choose?

I quite like Wilfred BUT

FWIW my uncle's middle name is Wilfred (family name) and when i was pregnant he made me promise not to include Wilfred at all

jellybeans · 04/03/2010 23:59

Ted

puffling · 05/03/2010 00:17

Ted.
I've always found the words Wilfred and Wilf really ridiculous sounding.

Tortington · 05/03/2010 00:20

wilf

or fred

not wilfred.

i really like wilf

LittlePushka · 05/03/2010 00:32

Cannot decide which I like best...but that is because I got one of each! Wilf/Wilfy & Ted /Teddy from Wilfred and Edmund.

Both magic IMHO!

(Do not like Ed and Fred though!!)

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 05/03/2010 06:28

Oh I love Wilfred. But then I love Fred, and Wilf is great, and if he wants something really 'normal' when he's older he can just go by Will.

adds to shortlistremembers isn't pregnantsulks

I have a Wilfred (2.6) who goes by Wilf or Wilfie and a nephew Edward (1.11) who goes by Ted. Both lovely but I do prefer Ted as a nickname than a real name

AllieW · 05/03/2010 19:30

Actually, I like Wilfred Ambrose. Not so keen on Ted (although the alliterative Ted Thomas, to complete the swap, could be quite cool.)

RHL · 05/03/2010 21:04

Wilf is a great name

PinkKumquat · 05/03/2010 21:06

I love Ted

bluebump · 05/03/2010 21:08

Ted, lovely name.

MrsJohnDeere · 05/03/2010 21:20

Wilf

(love Edward but not keen on Ted)

pippylongstockings · 05/03/2010 21:23

Wilfred is a brilliant name.

I like Ted but reminds me of the Fast show!

PinkKumquat · 05/03/2010 21:26

Actually either Wilf or Ted are great - Ted would have been our first choice if either dd had been a ds. How nice to have a ds.

PinkKumquat · 05/03/2010 21:27

Not that I'm not happy to have dds but would like to have a ds as well if that makes any sense. Dammit I just want a dc3 girl or boy!!
Any road a boy would be Ted!
Sorry for diversion about myself!

justwhen · 05/03/2010 21:29

Justgo with what u feel comfyb with xx

MerryMarigold · 05/03/2010 21:35

Not going for Ambrose at all. But I prefer Ted.

Wilfred just sounds really effeminate. I don't know why...and Wilf is actually hard to say. Can you imagine calling 'Wiiiiiiiiiilf', 'Wilf, put your shoes on NOW', 'Did you have fun at the party, Wilf?', 'Who's my little Wilfy'. Nope, it just doesn't work.

probonino · 05/03/2010 21:37

Wilf is very delightful. Ted also smashing.

LittlePushka · 05/03/2010 21:46

Merry Marigold - you been eavesdropping on me??!!

And I totally agree that saying
"Wilf, put your shous on NOW" never, ever works

bananamumma · 05/03/2010 21:47

I like Wilfred

kissprudence · 06/03/2010 19:21

Love Ted. It's my favourite boys name and has been since forever
