The only girls name that DH and i both like is Marcy, What do you think?
I think I woud prefer Marcia nn Marcy but DH not so keen.
Very much open to other name ideas, we have a DS called Carter and want something not to popular but not too out there for our DD.

I like it, but prefer the spelling Marcie, like the character in the Peanuts cartoons.

bellissima · 04/03/2010 08:31

Anybody else remember the Brady Bunch? I was massively jealous of Marcia's hair....

bellissima · 04/03/2010 08:32

Or 'Keith's' slightly flicked and perfect hair in the Partridge Family. Sorry to hijack. Not sure I would go for either Marcia (or Keith) but quite like Marcie.

April80 · 04/03/2010 09:03

Peanuts! forgotten about that!
Never seen the brady bunch will look it up.

Dose anyone know any children named Marcy/Marcie?

I like Marcia, NN Marcy. The only one i know is 30!

PestoMonster · 04/03/2010 09:23

No, but we know one called Darcy.

Bucharest · 04/03/2010 09:25

Strangely I have no objection when it's spelled Marcie, (although NMS) but when Marcy I imagine the Mammy in Gone With The Wind shouting at the scullery girl.

"Oh Marcy!!!!"

bellissima · 04/03/2010 09:54

I thought that was Prissy?! The one who "don't know nothing bout birthing babies".

Ahem, another hijack. apologies OP. You don't know The Brady Bunch because you aren't an ancient baggage like me.

Bucharest · 04/03/2010 10:24

Bell- probably was, but I associate the "oh mercy" thing with that era.

I know the BB and the Partridge Family. I used to have a PF magazine with cut out dollies. the height of cool, me.

AllieW · 04/03/2010 19:13

I'm with you, OP, Marcia nn Marcy is nicer.

thisisyesterday · 04/03/2010 19:16

i LOVE it! mostly cos i am a huge Peanuts fan though lol

hazeyjane · 04/03/2010 19:18

I like Marcy (but spelt Marcie) - definitely more than Marcia.

How about Marnie?

Lovethesea · 04/03/2010 20:29

I think of it as an American name - not a bad thing but I hear an American accent when I read it.

domesticslattern · 04/03/2010 20:42

yes I love it. And Marnie. And Darcy.

April80 · 04/03/2010 21:07

Thank you everyone for your post!
At the moment DD will be named Marcie May!

PestoMonster · 05/03/2010 11:56

Oooh! That's lovely

Jamieandhismagictorch · 05/03/2010 12:23

I like Marcie, and Marnie, and Carnie

(and sarnie, but in a different way))

Jenbot · 05/03/2010 20:11

Like it!

sunchild77 · 06/03/2010 19:50

I know a boy Marcy short for Marcelleus, so I think of it as a boys name... I like it more for a girl though..

FanjolinaJolie · 08/03/2010 12:58

So you want Carter and Marcy?

I like the names but really think they are too similar sounding to go together.

The AR AR sounds together are a bit much.

FanjolinaJolie · 08/03/2010 12:59

Watch out for arsie Marcy too.

April80 · 08/03/2010 14:49

FanjolinaJolie I had thought of that! I know it will be the first thing my uncle and probably my brother too will say!

Why is finding a girls name so hard?!?!?

OP posts:
menomena · 08/03/2010 20:03

It's not really my thing but there's nothing wrong with it. Do think it seems a bit incomplete though so probably would also tend to go for Marcia nicknamed Marcy.

Not sure why Marcy seems like a nickname to me whereas Lucy and Darcy seem complete! Maybe Lucy is too popular for you but I think it's lovely!

Linzymarcy83 · 18/05/2020 09:46

My daughter is called Marcy! i still love it (now 7yrs!) i think its cute and her friends like it. Although i must admit i wish id thought of her friends name which is Eden which is cute but never the less its a cute pretty name.
