I really am finding it difficult deciding on baby names. We don't know if we are having a boy or girl.

If we have a boy, Edward will be middle name after a family member. Let me know what you think of my shortlist

Joshua Edward,
Sanford Edward,
Joshua Sanford Edward,
Harrison Edward,
Cole Edward
Hugo Edward

Here are the girls names

Felicity Olivia,
Olivia Felicity,
Livia,

Help help help, I feel like I'm going around in circles. Thanks

Thanks for all your comments, has given me a lot to think about.
Another boy's name I like is Spencer. What are your thoughts???
My DH is Mark, do you think people would say Mark and Spencer as in M&S or am I just being silly?

Do not have Spencer if dh is Mark!

ChippingIn · 28/02/2010 21:00

Gahhhhhhhhh NO you cannot call the baby Spencer if you husband is Mark.... you just can't.

Another vote for avoiding Spencer here.

sanford is good.

you need more girls names, olivia is way too popular . what about viola

Maria2007loveshersleep · 28/02/2010 22:05

No please, not Spencer & not Sanford. And yes of course people are going to comment on the Mark & Spencer thing. You will too!! Imagine, hypothetical dialogue:

your friend asks: 'where are Mark & Spencer?'
and you answer: 'Mark & Spencer have gone shopping to Mark & Spencers'.

I really like Felicity & Olivia by the way. Pretty names.

Felicity is lovely.

My problem with most of your boys names is that they tend to run into Edward as a lot of them end in a vowel (made this mistake with dd's name). If this bothers you then you need a consonant ending to your first name, Harrison is therefore your best choice imo as Sanford is yuck! We have Edward as a middle name for ds and did struggle to find a first name that we liked that also went with it.

(BTW personally I wouldn't worry about the popularity issue, regarding Olivia. Its a lovely name regardless).

I'm a (primary) teacher and have yet to encounter any Harrisons with pierced ears, never mind before the age of five. In fact, the Harrisons I know are delightful boys. Joshua is the name that always seems to belong to the more tricky boys in any and every class I've ever taught; I'm sure it's more to do with the fact that there are so many Joshuas around than all Joshuas equal hard work!
