The initials WMD - OK or best avoided?

We really want to call him William and I'd like to use my maiden name as a middle name but do you think this would be double trouble - potential for 'willy' jibes, as well as 'weapons of mass destruction'.

Or am I just being paranoid?

Paranoid. A bit anyway. The response to the willy jibes, is 'haha, how original', and wmd is hardly something a child would think of. It would take quite an effort and a lot of scrutiny of initials to come up with wmd too. I wouldn't worry about it. If it remains a concern, how about adding a third name, giving 4 initials.

I wouldnt worry too much by the time he is old enough to care WMD should be long out of the news!

skihorse · 24/02/2010 19:35

Terrible - you'd never be able to find the little bugger.

@ ski.

William is very popular, so clearly the willy jibes aren't putting off the masses.

As for WMD - by the time he and his friends are old enough to get it, he'll probably actually quite like it.

asparagusaddict Congratulations, William is a lovely name, friend's kids are called it and I never hear the willy jibe.

I don't think kids would worry about WMD.

I like the idea of mathanxiety, so personally I would be tempted to go for another name as a second name as well as William. So maybe after William and before the M name so that it would be W?MD.

I think William is generally shortened to Will or Wills in the school yard these days, rather than Bill or Willy.

You never hear 'Prince Willy' (do you??).

As for WMD I honestly think that unless your initials on the peg come out as PIG or something like that, no child would start teasing someone on those grounds.

(They will always think of something or other. but not that)

LaDiDaDi · 25/02/2010 09:55

I wouldn't be worried about Willy or WMD.

Dumbledoresgirl · 25/02/2010 09:59

I can't think of a boy who wouldn't like to have the initial WMD actually. They tend to like that sort of thing. My son calls himself The Human Satnav because he has a good sense of direction.

I agree though that it is unlikely any child will make the connection.

And William is a fine name. I doubt very much Willy will be a problem.

Lol!
ROFL Skihorse!

Funny now,to my warped sense of humour, but in a few years no one will bat an eyelid.
I'm not sure people will notice tbh.
