Both DH and I really like the name Holly but can we name a girl Holly who is born in April? Are there any other non-Christmas Holly's out there?

My sister was born in September. No comment from anyone on it.

DS was born end of Jan and the first in our ante-natal group was born Christmas Eve - it took until mid Feb before a girl was called Holly as her parents then felt she was far enough from a Christmas birthday for it not to be an obvious choice - your worries but in reverse!

If you like the name go for it.

Although there was a family at the church where I grew up whose daughters were Holly and Robyn which I thought was OTT, and I don't think either of them was a Christmas baby

I don't see why not, it doesn't have to be a Christmas name.

Nice choice

Strawbezza · 23/02/2010 15:46

My friend June was born in April.

Why on earth would you think you have to wait for xmas to use the name Holly?

Its a lovely name, and my instant reaction wouldnt be "Oh she is called Holly, was she born at xmas then?"

5DollarShake · 23/02/2010 15:53

See, I would purposely not call a girl Holly if she was born around Christmas!

It's a lovely name - go for it!

AllieW · 23/02/2010 19:39

I don't see why not - the only Holly I know was born 29th February (and is technically, therefore, only 5 if memory serves!!). If you wanted to avoid the Christmas connoitation (and it is a traditional Christmas name, along with Noelle and Natalie) then you could use the Hollie spelling.

pointysayhiphip · 23/02/2010 19:53

Course you can. It's an evergreen.

Are Ivies only for Christmas?
Are Rowans only for AUgust/Sptember?
Are Roses only for summer?
Are Willows only for hippies?

I LOVE the name, but personally would use it only for a Christmas baby. DH was keen to use it at other times of the year for our DDs, but it just didn't feel quite right somehow. But if it doesn't bother you at all, go for it.

RoseWater · 23/02/2010 21:20

I know two girls named Holly who were born in March - tis such a pretty name.

EsmeWeatherwax · 23/02/2010 21:33

I've got an April born Holly. No one has ever commented on it, other than it being a lovely name. I'm sure somebody else on here ha one too...born on the same day as I remember!

Feierabend · 24/02/2010 13:14

I think the only name that you can't use for an April born baby is April, really Go for it!

tobago04 · 24/02/2010 13:21

My dd was born in April but we spelt it Hollie
