Our surname begins with a hard G.

DS is 3 weeks old and we just cannot make up our minds!

Help!

I love them both. Bear in mind that Joseph is likely to be called Joe by everyone, so it's which you prefer really. Also, people will associate Jude with the Beatles (Jude was Julian Lennon IIRC).

I wanted my DS to be Joel, Joe for short. Another gorgeous name!

bluecheesedip · 23/02/2010 12:30

I really love both, but Jude wins by a whisker. However, I think Joseph may sound better with your surname...

Wisenheimer · 23/02/2010 12:31

Joseph.

Biccy · 23/02/2010 12:33

Thanks both of you. You are putting your fingers on why we can't decide! I would like to go for Jude (don't mind either Beatles of Thomas Hardy associations), but like the fact that Joseph can be shortened, giving him choices, and also think Joseph sounds better with the surname as the 'D' sound is quite hard to articulate next to a hard G sound. Aargh, what to do?!

Jude is cool, classic and masculine.

I prefer it by far to Joe.

jellybeans · 23/02/2010 13:33

Joseph by a mile. Jude reminds me of Judy and also of Jude Law.

doubleexpresso · 23/02/2010 13:43

Joseph is much better. Jude sounds like a girl's name and I hate it! Sorry I know it's an old name, but it's going through a revival at the moment and I don't think it will sound as 'cool' in 20 years time. Whereas, Joseph, Joe is classic and has a good 'feel' about it. Good luck.

ChynaDoll2006 · 23/02/2010 14:00

Prefer Joseph.

Would prefer Judah though. Don't like Jude at all.

AllieW · 23/02/2010 19:42

I love them both. Joseph Jude would be very cool.

pointysayhiphip · 23/02/2010 19:54

Joseph

Lotster · 23/02/2010 20:34

Oh I heart Jude, wanted it for my son but was vetoed!

liliputlady · 23/02/2010 21:22

Joseph!

omaoma · 23/02/2010 21:27

Jude. Can always be J or JayJay as a nickname!

LadyCressida · 23/02/2010 23:03

Jude is one of my favourite names

And it's much less popular that Joseph

glastocat · 23/02/2010 23:09

My eight year old is called Jude. So thats the best name, obv.

butadream · 23/02/2010 23:13

I vote Joseph Jude nn JJ

skidoodle · 23/02/2010 23:17

Both very nice names.

I especially like Joseph. Apparently it is becoming very popular at the moment (even more than its "classic" status would normally mean), if that is important to you.

Jude reminds me a bit of the odious Jude Law, but we'll all have forgotten him by the time your DS is 2 [hopefelly]

glastocat · 23/02/2010 23:36

When my kid was born and named Jude a lot of people thought he was named after Jude Law.. My best mate just told them all I was an Eng Lit grad so if he was called after anyone it was Jude the Obscure. I'm not sure if that was an improvement really.

Cadelaide · 23/02/2010 23:45

jude

Skegness · 23/02/2010 23:49

Joseph

Tortington · 23/02/2010 23:59

i also prefer Judah

Biccy · 24/02/2010 08:23

Thanks everyone... not sure I'm any further forward! But at least there wasn't a resounding 'yuck' to both of them!

skidoodle · 24/02/2010 13:40

Jude the Obscure is a great character. Massive, massive improvement over robot-features, metrosexual, shitehawk Jude Law.

Sorry, Biccy, doesn't help you any.

I don't like Judah at all.

Hulababy · 24/02/2010 14:07

I love the name Joseph.

I don't like Jude at all, sorry.

Biccy · 24/02/2010 15:06

Thanks everyone. Overall I think Joseph is winning by a very small margin (12 votes for Joseph, 10 for Jude, counting a vote for each for people who like both equally).

Thing is my heart wants to go for Jude, while my head says Joseph.

Maybe we should do Joseph Jude, just not sure I'll be able to persuade DP to scrap Frederick as his middle name, and don't want 2 middle names.

Hmm.
