I kid you not I made it worse by asking if she was taking the piss. All I need now is for her to be a mumsnet member. The wierd thing is she has two other sons with normalish names. Why would you do it ?

Sorry if anyones child is called this i dont mean to offend

You know I have no idea, if not now at comp no doubt!

Ziggurat · 16/02/2010 14:56

"I made it worse by asking if she was taking the piss she just stormed off in am huff"

She'd better get used to it PDQ.

MaggieMaeve · 17/02/2010 00:12

wow, it makes chardonnay sound like a good choice!

Wolfblass · 17/02/2010 16:10

LMAO! How funny!

What ever next? Malibu, Pernod, Bulmers or maybe even WKD?

duchesse · 17/02/2010 16:14

OP Are you serious?

I'm thinking calling my next one Whiskas. Or maybe Fray'Bentos. Classy.

Babieseverywhere · 30/03/2010 09:15

"I'm thinking calling my next one Whiskas."

LOL, I struggle not to laugh when a work college was showing off her new baby son named Felix. I know it is a name but all I could think about was cat food

LaurieFairyCake · 30/03/2010 09:21

loads of mumsn' will have kids named Felix

oops

Smirnoff is a shit name for a kid - hopefully it will get shortened to Smurf.

You know your life is crap when you hope your name will be shortened to a small blue troll thing

MarianneD · 30/03/2010 11:50

I know of a little Tia Maria!

umf · 30/03/2010 13:12

Our DS (3 yrs) is Felix. He has two soft toy cats called Whiskas and GoCat - of course he has no idea why it's funny. Pretty bad start in life when your own parents take the mickey out of your name . But he IS very happy and so far very lucky.

We were going to call him Emil or Emile, until my mum started talking about her soon-to-be grandson Email. Having piss taken by own grandmother is even worse.

But Smirnoff?? That's something else entirely.

DramaInPyjamas · 30/03/2010 13:19

LOL @ Wanklyn. Poor kid!

tiredfeet · 30/03/2010 13:28

umf thats fab I like the name felix and as I don't have a cat I wouldn't think of the cat food. But having the soft toys is a stroke of genius, you might as well make the joke before someone else does

Smirnoff is certainly, erm, unique. Someone has to ask if the middle name is Ice...

sunchild77 · 30/03/2010 16:44

My brothers dog is called Smirnoff. It gets Smirny as nn.

Bloody awful for a dog let alone a baby.

LLJ4 · 30/03/2010 20:24

Oh dear.

Smirnoff is a surname - so not quite like Mercedes.

Stolichnaya, nn Stolly?

umf · 30/03/2010 21:22

Hah! I like Stolichnaya! We were thinking about Russian names for next one...

serenity · 30/03/2010 21:39

I would defend the name Nike, as it is a name (Greek goddess of Victory, which is why it was half-inched by a sports company!)

Then I reread it was a boy called Nike...

Poke away, they deserve it.

Hulababy · 30/03/2010 21:47

I know of a Labrini

cazzybabs · 30/03/2010 21:52

my mum taught someone called Tequila

HellBent · 30/03/2010 21:54

I know a Chardonnay as well. it does not help that the mother is rough as a badgers arse and shouts it all the time!

HoppingHeather · 30/03/2010 21:57

What a chav, everyone know its spelt Shardonnez

Divatheshopaholic · 30/03/2010 22:06

What a horrible people, to call baby Smirnoff

imamissandamummy · 30/03/2010 22:17

i went to uni with someone called Bacardi. it really suited her, no jokes intended. i would never choose it, or one remotely similar (thinking alcoholic drinks!) but as these children grow up with their silly names, people who know them will forget the association.
re: a few baby name threads recently, i do think it depends on the circles in which you mix - celebs get away with odd names so why shouldnt others?

Steggie · 31/03/2010 10:06

I taught a little boy called Foster. His sister was Stella. We always wondered what a third child might have been called. Kronenbourg perhaps or Heineken?
