Violet??

I like the name Violet- at least, I think I do- could just be the hormones though! And possibly unduly influenced by Jennifer Garner- least ridiculous celebrity mother I'm aware of- having called her daughter this. So think it therefore must be a good and not silly name. What do you think? likely nn? Don't like Vi but does anyone even know that as a nn these days?

I do know a baby called Violet (well, she's nearly one now). I think it is a beautiful name and she is a lovely little girl.

I have heard it shortened to Vi though.

BessieBoots · 14/02/2010 20:38

Gorgeous. Cute when she's little, classy when she's grown up.

rubyslippers · 14/02/2010 20:39

walrus · 14/02/2010 21:03

Love the name Violet, although it is very old fashioned, but coming back into fashion. I have an aunty Vi who is 83. Hate the name vi. Love the name violet.

mamaduckbone · 14/02/2010 21:04

Lovely - it was on our shortlist for girls. I had an aunt called Cynthia Violet Mary - how's that for elegant?

Horton · 14/02/2010 21:38

Love it. How about Letty for a nickname?

HaveToWearHeels · 14/02/2010 21:55

Love it - but then I'm biased as my DD2's middle name is Violet...

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 14/02/2010 22:45

I think it's lovely

momofnearly2 · 14/02/2010 23:38

I know an 11 year old called Violet. She never gets Vi though. (Well she does but she just corrects them, "It's Violet, not Vi)

Lovely Name

I love it.

I personally don't know and haven't come across any Violets.

boodleboot · 15/02/2010 10:04

I love this name and would short the shortening Vivi rather than Vi.....go for it.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 15/02/2010 10:09

I like it. I like V (vee) as a nn.

yellowflowers · 15/02/2010 11:20

oooh Vivi is a nice shortening.

Of course Violet could also become Lottie. Or Vio (pronounced vee-o).

And Vi could be pronounce Veye or Vee

MissHavishamsDress · 16/02/2010 22:01

Dd (3) is Violet so of course I love it. It took me a while to get used to at first even though I absolutely adore it but I am so so glad we took the plunge and gave her that name. It's the perfect name for her as she is the only one I know and has friends of other flower/gem names so it fits in nicely. She is always complimented on her name and carries it well as she is gorgeous and vivacious - it can't have damaged her self esteem!! I don't really shorten her name that often, but if I do I call her Vee or Vivi (veevee) but my favourite nn for her is Pie Pie, for no particular reason - possibly from Sugar Pie.

KAEKAE · 17/02/2010 18:49

I liked it when pregnant.....I would have used lettie/lottie as a NN rather than (Vee) my DP hated it though and so now we have a Poppy instead!

mrswill · 17/02/2010 20:43

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!

Am very jealous. This was one of my top names for DD, but got vetoed by DP. Cant believe I listened to him now, and regret compromising on DD'd name. Go for it.
