2 middle names?

mama2moo · 14/02/2010 17:53

We are registering dd2's name tomorrow and we have decided on the first name and middle name. I want to use my Grans name but it wont go with the just the first name IYSWIM.

First name ends in an A as does my Grans name. If we have the name May in between it sounds better.

Is it cruel though? Dp isnt keen at all.

Thanks.

My DD has two middle names, the first of which is Mai. Her first name also ends with an 'a'...

Lifeinagoldfishbowl · 14/02/2010 17:59

I have 2 middle names

BelleDameSansMerci · 14/02/2010 18:00

Oh, and her second middle name is my grandmother's name (although it doesn't end with an a) - spooky.

TeflonMum · 14/02/2010 18:02

Both my children have three middle names each. They are family names, passed on for sentimental reasons/tradition. They don't have to use them any time other than on official forms, so it's not cruel, no.

mama2moo · 14/02/2010 18:04

Thanks all. DP will say its cruel when I tell him! I havent plucked up the courage yet!

I am so pleased that you have all used 2 or more, it makes me more determined to do it

I have two middle names and wish wish wish I had done the same for my daughter. I can't quite remember why I didn't. Was in hormonal fog.

I was going to use my Dad's name as a second middle name for DS, but didn't because the names didn't 'flow'. I wish I had now, though, as he only time people say their full name is when they marry (or are trial).

My friend reg her baby with a middle name and didn't tell her DH about it for years!

I have multiple middle names, as do my siblings. Not cruel at all - makes a LOVELY signature for a cheque.

MaggieMaeve · 14/02/2010 18:33

not cruel, but a bit ott. you never use your middle name except for an initial. It helps if your name is Jane smith to be upon closer examination Jane Ethelreid Smith. But two middle names makes me think the parents were indecisive and trying to cram in as many favourite names as possible! Nothing wrong with that. But it's like having beautiful paintings, but having them in the attic. Nobody sees them. What's the point really?

mama2moo · 14/02/2010 18:37

He doesnt like the name. Its Vera and he thinks its too old fashioned. I think I will just tell him!

My DD2 has 3

frakkinaround · 14/02/2010 18:48

I actually like the name Vera and I think it's due a comeback. Makes me think of a young Vera Lynn!

I think it totally depends on your reasons for having multiple middle names. My poor brother has a trainload because my parents both disliked both family names but he was the first boy in the generation, so they became middle names, then he was born on the same day as his godparent so had a variation on that name, and the two names my parents couldn't decide between. 5, though, is excessive.

I personally have 3 - 2 family related middle names - and 'Mary' tagged on the beginning as a baptismal name which happens to all the girls in my family but doesn't appear anywhere on the paperwork. I used to love saying all my names when I was small.

Ivykaty44 · 14/02/2010 18:51

May is only three letters

now Bernadette would be a lovely name but a little long for another two names to go with

my dd2 has two middle names but in total her names have 12 letters - only two more than the name above

Ivykaty44 · 14/02/2010 18:52

so just tell your dh it the number of letters not the amount of names

My ds has 2 middle names. They are my dad's name and dh's name.
I love it and see absolutely nothing wrong with it.
