I love it but DP insists it's not a "real name" so we'd need a full version for the birth certificate. I think traditionally Polly is a pet name for Margaret? However DP doesn't like the Thatcher connotations.

Could Polly be short for anything else?

I think 'Polly' can be a nickname for all sorts of names, from Mary to Molly and even Pollyanna (if you want her to be ever-cheerful!) but don't see why you can't just call your baby Polly on the birth certificate if you want to.

I love the name - am pregnant with DC2 but know it's a boy so can't use it, and also decided against it as DH has always had an alarming lust for PJ Harvey (the P standing for Polly) and I wouldn't want a daughter of mine named after someone her daddy fancied! Use it on my behalf, please! It's a lovely name.

You could have Penelope as a full name.

Could you go for something like Margot or Maria or is that getting to tenuous.

I've only heard of Polly being short for Pollyanna - both are fab fab names!

I never knew Polly was a nickname for Mary, but google says you're right! Think it might be a bit of a stretch these days though.

Penelope is definitely a possibility, though I'm not madly keen on it.
