Don't like it. Sorry.

smother · 10/02/2010 15:19

oh i love this name - and i know a really lovely one too. I think she spells it Irenee though.

Hulababy · 10/02/2010 15:28

I don't like it, sorry.

mathanxiety · 10/02/2010 16:44

I knew an Irene whose pet name was Irenie. I like both versions. There's Eirene (Greek) which is nice too.

GrimmaTheNome · 10/02/2010 17:00

I've only ever seen it spelled Irene, with the final e sounded or not.

I like it.

FimBOW · 10/02/2010 17:08

I know an Eirene

rebeccacad · 11/02/2010 10:51

Love it - but DH won't let me!

We would have spelled Irenea (google it) to ensure no confusion with Irene.

seeker · 11/02/2010 10:54

But it's spelled Irene. it's my dd's third name after her great great grandmother.

mazzystartled · 11/02/2010 10:55

I love it. It has a lovely sound and a lovely meaning.

DD was Irene (pronounced Irenie) for about 3 days. It just didn't stick somehow. It's her middle name, after DH's granny.

PollyTechnique · 11/02/2010 11:08

Love it. Really pretty.

Chunkyrice · 11/02/2010 11:12

Pretty, but sounds like an adjective describing Irene.

thatsnotmymonster · 11/02/2010 11:13

HATE it. Knew someone at school called that and always hated it. Sorry.

Cortina · 11/02/2010 11:22

Much prefer Irene (not pronounced Irenie).

Very coo IMHO and have considered it.

I love it! Came across one with that spelling when I worked in a nursery about fifteen years ago, she was such a little darling too!

Skegness · 11/02/2010 13:43

lol Chunkyrice!
I'm not keenie on Irenie, tbh.

abride · 11/02/2010 13:43

It's spelled Irene. If you spell it differently it looks a bit as though you don't know how to spell the name.

RnB · 11/02/2010 17:21

thanks everyone Not too keen on Irene but think the pronunciation Iren-ee is cute - yes heard it first on Forsythe saga MrsVwolf

I like it but, as others have said, spelt Irene. (I also quite like Rene, with the same sort of pronunciation, although the American pronunciation of that appears to have also taken over here.)

Beauregard · 12/02/2010 19:02

I like it

pogleswife · 12/02/2010 20:13

Just come across ' Irina' in New Moon- that's
lovely
too. Assume it's pronounced I as in 'in' rather than 'eye'

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/02/2010 13:33

Irina/Irena - pronounced I - rain -a.

LynetteScavo · 13/02/2010 13:34

Not to my taste.

cece · 13/02/2010 14:14

I know one, she is Croatian. Quite like it.
