Hi MN's thankyou for your replies when I asked if you liked the name Finn.I still love it and I realise that DH's mind will not be changed no matter what I say!!
I have a son Ellis and expecting second son in 4 and a half months.
The only name we can agree on is Kelly.Does it go with Ellis and is it too girly??

I wouldn't personally, but each to their own!

momofnearly2 · 08/02/2010 09:55

I like it. Went to school with a boy called Kelly. He never had any problems!

Ziggurat · 08/02/2010 09:56

I would take a certain boy to carry it off with aplomb - and of course, there's no way of telling whether he is that boy...

MadameCastafiore · 08/02/2010 09:56

He will get beaten up when he goes to school or you will get sniggered at when you tell people what you have called him because for most it is still the name of a 35 year old woman!

MadameCastafiore · 08/02/2010 09:57

And say them together quickly - far too many LLL sounds.

tegan · 08/02/2010 10:01

i love it i love it i love it. i think it sounds lovely together. i would of loved kelli for a boy buy dh wouldn't have it even though he chose sidney for our dd

MaggieTaSeFuar · 08/02/2010 10:12

No. It's like Kerry. There are some male ones but they are old very old.

what about kelly as a nn for Killian/cillian/Calum

Wolfblass · 08/02/2010 10:18

Ooh there are some lush Kelly's in this world

(Welsh Rugby players and the lead singer of Stereophonics for one!)

It all depends on your community and your schools.

I have a Gabriel and people said the same about that - BUT have grown to love it (in t he short 10 months he's been here x

shoobidoo · 08/02/2010 11:25

I really like Kelly for a boy and know a lovely 7 year old one (whose never had any issues with it as far as I know).

crumpette · 08/02/2010 11:28

I personally think it's truly awful for a boy

oooh I like. It reminds me of Kelly Slater, the champion surfer who I used to drool over as an adolescent. Google him and have a butchers.

PuppyMonkey · 08/02/2010 11:38

It reminds me of Kelly from Charlie's Angels. She was very gorgeous though. She was my first schoolgirl crush I think.

MegSophandEmma · 08/02/2010 11:41

Kelly slater the surfer dude mm mmm.

Yep I think it's a fab name for a boy and goes well with Ellis

gagamama · 08/02/2010 11:43

Ellis is sweet but Kelly doesn't go with it at all. Kelly Ellis sounds like the name of a thirtysomething receptionist, not the names of two lovely little boys!

aSilverLining · 08/02/2010 11:44

Kelly Jones is my ultimate piece of eye candy.

My son has a name used for girls and boys, and also has long blond hair so is often mistaken for a girl {shrugs shoulders}. Depends if it would bother you, and also him. He may get teased for it, but then he may get teased for many things. Wouldn't use ellis too though as don't think they go together well.

AuntyBee · 08/02/2010 11:55

Love it! Probably because of the delightful Kelly Jones, but also it's rarely used for girls any more. Ellie seems to be preferred now (there are hundreds of them at DS's school). I have a brother named Courtney, another "girl's" name. It never did him any harm

CinderellaRach · 08/02/2010 13:12

I like it but from replies seems like a 'marmite'name some love it and some hate it..I love Kelly Slater too and Kelly Jones!I need a name and it has to go with Ellis so hard!!

I like Kelly and Kerry for a boy, but I agree that it doesn't sound right with Ellis.

nickelbabe · 08/02/2010 13:24

iirc, in Welsh, it's just a boy's name and would be ridiculed if used for a girl.

mathanxiety · 08/02/2010 18:14

No and thrice no. And definitely no with a brother names Ellis.

KAEKAE · 08/02/2010 22:48

No I am sorry I don't like it for a boy...I'm female, my name is Kelly....and yes I was named after Kelly from Charlie's Angels..my mother thought she was stunning.lol Poor me, I would have prefered a name like Amelia.

Anyway, no, not keen on it for a boy there are far nicer less feminine names out there.

Hulababy · 09/02/2010 09:42

I dn't like th name Kelly for boy or girl, sorry.

CinderellaRach · 09/02/2010 09:46

Thankyou for honest feedback. If I chose it I'm very sure I'd be ridiculed and I'd hate our son to be laughed at.I still love the name though.I read it's from gaelic background and my father is Irish. There are many Irish names in my family.

I cannot stand this name for a girl but for a boy it is lovely, i know a lovely man called Kelly. He is Irish too.
