Ok, I'm due in 3 days and we're still not sure which of the following to go for. Rank them for me, would you?

Johnny Samuel
Theo John
James John
Alex John
Timothy John
Miles John

(If we went with Johnny, he would have John on his birth cert. Same with Alexander and Theodore but realistically the above are what he would be known as.)

Oh and, yes, John is a family name so we're sticking with that somewhere.

Thanks!

Timothy John
John Samuel
Theo John
Alex John
Miles John

Bringing up the rear....

James John

janeite · 04/02/2010 18:49

Theo or Timothy - but I love James too. Dislike Miles and Johnny.

Fourleaf · 04/02/2010 19:47

Nice list...

Timothy John - defo the best - my DH is Tim and it's a lovely name Underused at the mo too.

James John - nice and classic
Miles John - pretty classy
Alex John - OK but much prefer Alexander John
Theo John - as above - 'Theo' on its own just means 'God'
Johnny Samuel - again, not keen on nickname-ish names...

Good luck - I personally found it impossible to name my boy until I saw him

Hulababy · 04/02/2010 19:50

Johnny Samuel - I don't like Johnny particularly; think John is better. I lik Sanuel. Samuel John sounds nice

Theo John - fine; again I prefer Theodore to Theo

James John - solid traditiional name

Alex John - not as keen on Alex

Timothy John - I really don't like Timothy

Miles John - not keen on Miles

Of the various combinatins available using John, I like Samuel John best.

I know a 3mth old baby Jonny (Jonathan) and think it sounds so cute

lljkk · 04/02/2010 19:53

I just don't like Miles or Theo (no offense to owners of any such).
Otherwise they're all good choices, but I think Alexander John sounds nicest.

PollyTechnique · 04/02/2010 22:38

Johnny Samuel
Alex John
Theo John
James John
Timothy John
Miles John

DiamondHead · 04/02/2010 22:39

I like Johnny.

I another one who doesn't like the name Timothy.

pointydog · 04/02/2010 22:49
  1. Johnny Samuel - like Johnny a lot and I don't care one bit about the condom connotations. Good name.
  1. Theo John - even poncier
  1. James John - James is just such a good sound. Quite fond of Jim too.
  1. Alex John - almost joint second. Another great sound.
  1. Timothy John - this comes way way below number 3. A bit wet. Tim is almost bearable.
  1. Miles John - poncey
pointydog · 04/02/2010 22:50

I should have ordered those numbers, shouldn't I

Hulababy · 05/02/2010 08:30

My brother is Jonathan and the only person ever allowed to call him Jonny is my DD (his 7y niece). He was always Jonathan or Jon when growing up, and he really didn't like Jonny at all.

crumpette · 05/02/2010 09:38

OP, seems opinions are very split so obviously you will have to choose what you like best

but, here goes

I like Samuel John best, or Jonathan James.

Don't massively like 'John' as a first name, much much prefer Jonathan

Dislike Theo intensely, followed by Miles and Timothy. My problem with Timothy is that I used to work with one who was classically drippy pompous and effeminate and I can't shake that image.
