FAO Teachers: what are your naughty names?

emeraldbell · 04/02/2010 09:44

following on from my last thread where a couple of teachers agreed that Lewis was a naughty name, well, the child with the name Lewis is usually naughty, you know what I mean?

So there must be other names that fall in to the same bracket. When a teacher sees a list of new students names and thinks 'that one'll be good and that one'll be a nightmare!'

So teachers list your good and bad names, please!

(And any one else that wants to have a go)

For dh and me names we could never use on our own children would be Rory, Connor or Max as they are very strongly linked to a particular child (e.g. one had tried to attack dh and is now serving a long sentence for murder) whilst other slightly naughty ones just fade from memory. But don't have a naughty names list since imo names don't neatly categorise.

I do like looking at form lists at the start of the year for the trend names, the unusual and siblings.

OMG! It's like reading through all my old registers! I think Jamie is a decent and inoffensive name, but every one I have ever taught has been 'challenging'! I did also teach a 'lively' Ricky, like someone else mentioned.

I am a teacher and I do not like the idea of 'naughty names' - except Kain/Cane/Cain/Kayne/Kaene/Cayne and variations thereof.

Only just seen this and only read the OP but why wasn't this thread done 4yr ago??? That would have been 5 days before my son LEWIS was born

Phoenix take heart - I have taught several lovely Lewises, and no naughty ones that I can recall, so the op was wrong on that score!

J names for boys, K names for girls.
Think Josh, Jake, Jacob, Jay, Jaydon.
Kelsey, Kayleigh, Kelly, Kerry.

Also, names that are spelt wrong, or just clearly made up!!!

On the other hand, we had three siblings all named after cars(not coincidentally)...and they were lovely, from very sweet parents. Clearly just an odd sense of humour!

For boys, pretty much any name which could also be a surname:

Fraser
Tyler
Jordan
Mason
Harvey
list goes on.

Plus Liam.

I'm a teacher and I disagree with all this 'naughty names' business. I think it can lead to teachers putting kids into roles and then the kids living up to them. I have had fantastic kids with nearly all of the names mentioned, and also 'bad' ones. My current star pupil is a Brayden, I hope nobody ever uggets to him he has a 'naughty' name.

What a stupid and pointless thread.

Teachers, how unprofessional that you are actually admitting on a public forum that you already have pre-conceived ideas about a child based on their name.

Report
StarExpat · 05/02/2010 09:53

oh give me a break paperclipcollector. I don't have any preconceived notions about "sams" that enter my class. Rather, that I wouldn't name my own child a name that I've had to say in a firm voice several times a day for a year (or more if more than one child with that name in subsequent years). You really need to get over yourself.

spongebrainbigpants · 05/02/2010 09:54

paperclip, everyone has preconceived ideas of people based on their name - and the posters on here aren't all teachers. You only have to look at the baby names thread to see that - e.g. "when I hear this name I think of this" etc.

And, as someone has already said, it doesn't mean if you think Connor is going to be naughty and he turns out to be an angel, you put him in detention every day just in case .

Sense of humour?

By far the worst teacher I ever knew was called Wendy.

NOBODY is judging children with any of these names. It is to do with experiences, not preconceptions, and thus yes I would concur, slightly pointless.

There are LOADS of names on here. Nobody is keeping a spreadsheet of cwhich come up the most.

(well I don't think they are anyway)

Flightattendant · 05/02/2010 09:57

Oh and one of the bestw as called Bill...and yes, I did name my second child after him

Report

Tis completely pointless - as are a large number of threads on MN!
